Mackenzie focused a lot on the Health Center in our discussion. She had an infection this summer and went to the Health Center to get it treated.

She liked her experience a lot because the Health Center treated her infection the same day. She really liked how the staff treated her because she said everyone was extremely empathetic. She did not feel like she was being shuffled along or like that she was a number in the system. She also appreciated how they tried to get all the facts about how she was feeling, what her lifestyle is like, etc. She did not feel rushed at all.

Do you feel like the care you've received at the Health Center differs from care you've received at other places?
She said that if she goes to her normal doctors or OBGYN, she feels like they are dealing with people who have more significant illnesses or issues than her, whereas with the Health Center, they are consistently working with patients who have the same infection or issue that she has because it's on a college campus.

The first time she went to the Health Center, she had to get her birth control refilled. She had tried to get it refilled from her normal OBGYN, but it would have taken a long time to go to Columbia and she would had to miss class. Instead, she went to the Health Center, and they extended her prescription before her normal testing came back, whereas when Mackenzie called her normal OBGYN, they said she couldn't get her prescription refilled until she made an appointment. The Health Center made her feel like they were really trying to take care of her. She said at the Health Center, they treat you the way they want to be treated.
