Most basic element of design. Four types of line are horizontal, vertical, curved and diagonal. Horizontal lines communicate feelings of relaxation, calmness, and restfulness. Vertical lines cause your eye to move up and down and suggest height, strength, dignity, and stability. Diagonal lines communicate different levels of energy based on angle and how many. Lastly curved lines give feelings of organization, eternity, and uniformity.
