Quartering Act

The Quartering Act was passed in March of 1765. It made colonists provide food and shelter for British soldiers. It was later expanded in response to the Boston Tea Party to make colonists house the soldiers in private homes.

Townsend Acts

The Townshend Acts were passed in 1767 and placed taxes on imported tea, glass, and paper. It also suspended the New York Assembly because they refused to follow the Quartering Act. It also gave British Officials "writs of assistance" which allowed them to search private homes for smuggled goods.

On March 5, 1770, a crowd of colonists started harassing British soldiers near a custom's house. The soldiers fired into the crowd and killed 5.

Battle of Bunker Hill

In June of 1775, the Massachusetts militia and British troops fought outside of Boston. Although the British won, the colonists fought well and it boosted the colonial forces' spirit. (I can't draw)

Battle of Saratoga

In October of 1777, General Burgoyne of Great Britain and his army were running low on supplies. He sent a force to an American supply base in Bennington, Vermont. Unfortunately for him, a local militia group defeated them, forcing Burgoyne and his army to Saratoga, New York. He was now in some trouble, as him and his army were the only ones there, so no other forces could help him if he got into a battle. When the colonists attacked him, there he had to surrender, failing the British plan to take over Albany. This was a huge triumph for the colonists and changed the course of the war.
