What is rotation? Rotation is a circular movement of an object around an axis. If the axis passes through the objects center of mass then the object will rotate upon its self, also known as spinning. For earth, it takes 23 hours and 56 minutes to complete one rotation. Earths rotation causes us to have day and night. If Earth suddenly stopped rotation then everything would be swept away into the atmosphere.

What is revolution? Revolution is the movement of the Earth around the Sun. It takes the Earth about 365 days to complete one revolution, or one year. An effect of Earth's revolution is seasons. Earth's axis has a slight tilt, so when the Earth Orbits around the Sun it causes us to have Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter.
