To create these in photoshop, I had to go to File- New and open up a blank page. Then I changed the size to 8 by 8 in and made sure the resolution was 300. From there I had to create the grid by going to View- New Guide and adding a grid line at 4in on both vertical and horizontal for the first two tessellations. For the rest of the tessellations, depending on how many squares I wanted I would add a grid line at 1in, 2in, 3in, 4in and so on. Once that was set up, I could open up a picture that I would use by going to File- Open and choosing the photo. To crop the photo I had to use the crop tool and change the setting to 1 x 1 in so that it fits when I start composing the tessellation. After I had the cropped photo I wanted, I went to Image- Image Size and made it the same size as the grid I was using. Then I dragged the cropped photo to the side and used the move tool to place it on the grid and made sure it aligned well with the first square of the grid. To copy the photo I one to Layer- Duplicate Layer and the drag the layer that was on top of the original to the box to the right of it and went to Edit-Transform- Flip Horizontal. I knew one photograph could tell a story but the creation of the tessellation tells another. My favorites were the one of the bird of paradise plant and the  spider web in the tree.
