In our classrooms we say the academic vocabulary and have the students repeat them. We will attach written vocabulary words to visuals we have around the classroom and have students describe the visuals related to the particular vocabulary. We also have students portray a process like photosynthesis where they can act out being a plant that's photosynthesizing while they orally describe what is occurring.

One strategy for using oral language to discuss text would Think - Pair - Share. After reading text, students can have an opportunity to discuss what they have read with a partner. After partners have discussed, the class or group can come back together to share what was discussed.

One strategy is to create an environment full of language development opportunities. This allows students time to listen and speak. Another would be the use of vocabulary. Having it up and shown and also spoken. Students can use what they are hearing and seeing to write.

Oral language is modeled and shared when we are reading. We are making the sounds and our mouths are moving with those sounds.

Two strategies I would use is read aloud for my PLA students so that hear the stories they are not ready to read words (visuals with words would help increase their lang.). Second strategy would Readers theater. It would be great to use communication devices to help them read out their part of story. It makes them feel apart of the story and not just a listener. Modeling the correct word pronunciation and the inflection helps while sharing the book with another student might help them listen to others and learn different ways they can say the words. Interactive reading makes the reading more dynamic. Being able to manipulate (like breaking down a word in to base word and prefixes) allows them to understand oral language both on and off the paper.

2 strategies Think- pair- share and Read Aloud or modeled reading. This is a time for students to share thoughts and ideas, for the teacher or peer to correct misconceptions. Also, students having a visual representation helps students to gain a better understanding.

Two strategies for using oral language to discuss text are to provide discussion prompts and readers theatre. Through discussion prompts, students know the question ahead and can prepare to provide valid answers, therefore building confidence. Using readers theatre from a high school perspective would have students design a play to present to the class. Not only will they be practicing their oral language but also building their vocabulary. The oral language is modeled and shared when teachers read aloud to children and students interview each other. Through readers' theatre, students can create a play together to promote interactive writing as part of oral language.

Oral language can be modeled and shared in interactive writing by having students share their thoughts and the teacher charting it. This can be done about a text that has been read or about anything the student is knowledgeable about. Language Experience Approach is an effective method of expanding student language skills and moving that into their reading and writing. A group field trip is a great opportunity for this. Students can talk about the experience at higher levels than they can read and write. They then can go back and read what was written as a group with background knowledge of the topic.
