STD PROJECT

This project is an inter-subject assignment for subjects Genetics, Immunology and Pathology.

For this project, in groups, we are assigned with one type of sexually-transmitted disease and required to find information about the disease. My group did on disease causes by Human papillomavirus (HPV). For this assignment, we need to prepare 2 posters and 1 write-up on HPV.

To begin with, this project is supposed to 'lessen' our burdens this semester as we had a short semester due to LI. At first hear, I was like "thank god lecturers actually understand us". But then, though it was for three courses,it was not an easy thing to do. we need to catch up with classes, other assignments, tests within 10 weeks of semester. Know what? It was hectic, 2 weeks between tests, other lecturers' assignments, other responsibilities outside class. Despite that we tried our best to get this project done. It was a brilliant idea actually, to do combine three courses assignment into one and to do write-up and 'exhibition'. It was something out of the usually assignments like class presentation. THUMBS UP FOR THAT!
The first part of this project is to come up with a mind-map on assigned disease. We distributed parts within group members and managed to come up with the mind-map. We use Padlet as the platform to compile all our materials like the mind-map and journal papers. After the mind-map, we start collecting materials/info for write-up. my group members and I even went K17 library to find books on the disease (3 years in UPM, this project made me step into the library :) ). Write-up was actually the worse part of this project. Why? We need to write on the genetics, immunology and pathology of HPV and to be honest, some of the info we included in the write-up we ourselves don't really get it. So, this bring about the disaster during poster presentation. We had two poster presentations; one with the lecturers in biotech foyer and another one with school students. Like I said, some of the info me myself don't get it so how I'm supposed to tell others, in this case phd lecturers, about it?! And I really don't like to talk about something I don't understand as I might give others the wrong info. And yeah I did give inaccurate explanation on the day with the lecturers. Personally I'm quite frustrated because I couldn't give my best during the presentation. I did on genetics which something that I like but unfortunately it was a fail. But past is past, gonna learn from that right. I learnt that I need to explore more to understand better. The last part of this project is poster presentation to school students. The school that we went was SBPI Gombak and it was lit! It was actually the highlight of the project. There we present our poster and explain to students on our topic. The students were fantastic! They were actually listened and interested to hear our explanation, which make me more excited to explain (this presentation in waaayyyy better than the one in biotech). I'm so sorry to say this but doing presentation with the students make hard stuff looks and seems not that hard. With the lecturers, it feels a lot more pressure because they expect us to know EVERYTHING. If we were to know everything, might as well we don't need to attend classes and study. We are students, we come to classes to study and we can't know everything yet. We are exposed to new thing everyday, we learn new knowledge everyday. Please don't expect we know everything, just yet. Okay back to the presentation in SBPI Gombak, we had great time there with the students and that wraps up the STD project.

Through this project, I learned a lot about HPV, obviously. I also learned on finding info from various sources that actually can help with FYP next semester. Also, learned to cope with the hecticness throughout the semester. Thanks a lot to my group-mates and lecturers for help and support.

This project called Virtual Microbes: Special Education is a project under Dr Wan Zuhainis Saad. For this project, we, UPM, collaborated with USM and UIA. Students are grouped into several groups and in each group there were also students from UIA and USM. Each group is given a theme to work on and my group got theme 'Food'. Actually two groups do on the same group, so the other group did on food is Amelia and the gang. But, we don't really 'work together'.

For our group, we decided on focusing on yogurt. You know, the good of it, the bad of it, how to eat, how to storage, how to detect spoilage, how top manage, etc. The plan was, UPM students work on the contents, UIA students work on the teaching module and USM students do the teaching. Oh yeah, this project is especially for people with special needs. Back to the plan, we UPM students prepared the contents as in any related info and shared it in a Padlet where everyone can have access to. Then the UIA students will construct a module based using the contents and USM students will use the module to teach the people with special needs, or in another word, to realize the purpose of this project. As mentioned, we worked with students from other uni, so we use online platform, Zoom, to communicate. We had Zoom conversation once, where during that conversation we get to know each other and discuss on our topic. Overall, USM & UIA students in my group were okay, we had no big issues. Thank God. Supposedly for this project we're going to go to a school to do the teaching. Unfortunately, due to public holidays and don't have any other time (because we got to go for LI) we couldn't do so. But, you always have a way to make something happen so I guess it will, just matter of when. Still, it would be great if we manage to make it happen!
