In a complex of rooms, the highly skilled miller harnesses wind energy to processes raw materials into finished products using a wide variety of traditional techniques, most notably large granite millstones which grind up to 80 kilos of pigments per hour. De Kat’s products supply a number of well-known art supply stores in the Netherlands, and also fulfill custom orders, producing pigments of custom size for the reproduction and restoration of historic paint layers. De Kat is an excellent example of an environmentally sustainable business model housed within a historic building complex, honouring its original use as a windmill.
