Aristophanes was a famous

playwrighter who introduced

a twist on comedy.

Born c. 446 BC in the

beautiful state of Athens.

Aristophanes became very

interested in political satires and

highlighting the troubles of Athens

at that time. He began to introduce

jokes into his plays and soon became

very famous for his work. Sadly

he passed on in c. 386 BC.

Aristophanes was Greek playwriter and comedian who started his career by entering in small, local competions. He was told to put a special touch on the original Greek comedy, Old comedy. Old comedy was a mixture of fantasy, satira (human foolishness) and obvious sexuality. His plays had a way with shrinking the self importance of people involved in politics, social life and literature.

Little is known about Aristophanes personal life, but he was obviously well educated and loved in the Greek society.

Its said that Aristophanes wrote 40 plays and of which only 11 have made it to the modern day including The Frogs, The Birds, The Clouds, Lysistrata, Plutus, The Wasps, and The Knights.

Aristophanes was able to write 40 plays , his first play, 'The Banqueters', won second prize in the City Dionysia (427 BC), won the Lenaia for his play, Acharnians (425 BC), won the Lenaia again for his play, The Knights (424 BC), once again won the Lenaia for his play, The Frogs (405 BC), passed on to the heavenly above's.

Aristophanes introduced many things into Ancient Greece and of some which are still around today. Some of the things that are still out there today include 11 of his play,

The Frogs, The Birds, The Clouds, Lysistrata, Plutus, The Wasps, and The Knights.

Aristophanes also left with us something else, his legacy, his quotes and his mark in comedy and drama.

Aristophanes wrote 40 plays in his time and all had his own spark of original Greek comedy, Old Comedy. He used beautiful poetry in all of his plays which i would say was another spark he bought to the stage. Aristophanes was recognized all over Greece for his work and won many awards for his plays.

9 years after the war between Athens and Sparta, Aristophanes was forced to stop making fun of politics due to the ruling of Spartains. His life and plays came to stop later on when he died peacefully.
