In our lifetime it is incredibly important that we work towards change in our future and listen to the needs of Aboriginal people as outlined in the Uluru statement. It is important that we start listening to the needs of indigenous people and have a real focus on closing the gap between first nation peoples and white people. We need to listen to such statement's and not ignore the Indigenous people's needs and improvement requests as they are a part of our society also. Equality and necessary changes in the rights of Indigenous people are ultimately up to us as the Australian public - WE need to take real action and reform our and treatment of Indigenous Australians. We must bring more representation for Indigenous people and more constitutional changes and significant rights in line with this statement and other significant needs of the Indigenous peoples.

I think that it is important to move forward, not just giving hope and opportunity to people, but actually following through with movements. Aboriginals are the rightful owners of this land and have been for the past couple of thousand years. To take this away from them based on some obscurity is not acceptable. Change must be achieved. Just like the comment ‘we asked for a vote in 1967 and asked to be heard in 2017,’ we can see that progress doesn't always lead to extensive change. The importance of drawing people together and bridging the gap between our two races is something that should have been done ages ago. Some laws have tried and failed to do so but we must keep trying until total equality is achieved.

I feel that in our lifetime, it is important that the indigenous Australians receive the opportunity to be heard and have a large impact and voice, not only within our society but within our parliament as well. Although the 2008 apology by Prime minister Kevin Rudd was a significant move forward for the indigenous people in making peace with the past, I feel that further action is needed to be taken by the government to really truly show the reconciliation and importance of the First Nations people within the Australian community.

I think that it is important to give indigenous people the voice that they deserve in our country and have an opportunity to be heard. Steps forward have been made but still much more has to be done, indigenous people have been asking for so long to have more action taken but our government has ignored and not acknowledged this, I think we should start to listen more to what indigenous people are saying as they would be heard and it would result in a more reconciled country.

It's important that we learn about the mistreatments of the past, as if we learn from these wrongdoings, we can prevent them in the future. Through learning about these things, as well as the extreme efforts required to achieve minor changes, we can try to bridge the gap that has grown between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians.

Australia needs to help the indigenous people and recognise their dire need for help , we need to focus on closing the gap and striving for equality in all aspects of their lives. However, to do this we need to acknowledge them as the traditional custodians of our land and make an improvement on the way we view other people. Although we have apologised for past mistakes we need to further our efforts in helping them and make the constitutional changes required.

In our lifetime I believe it is important to build an inclusion and non-discriminative society which is inclusive of all cultural background, in particular the traditional owners of the land the Indigenous and Torres Strait Islanders. We must work together to achieve a cohesive and inclusive society by offering equal opportunity to all people. Indigenous movements like the Uluru statement is a prime example of how we must respond to the needs indigenous. As traditional owners of the land indigenous people must gain the proper respect they deserve, further action needs to be taken by the government to protect their rights.

I think that Indigenous Recognition has definitely improved since the Stolen Generation and the past. Since Kevin Rudd apologise in 2009 there has been very little progression to recognition. An example of this is the Uluru statement of the Heart. The people involved in this statement came up with a treaty as guidelines for further recognition and a way to work towards a united nation. This was ultimately rejected by Malcom Turnbull saying it is neither “desirable or capable of winning acceptance at referendum” and nothing has been done to work towards Indigenous Recognition since.
In order for Indigenous Recognition we need to educate in schools and society and allow these people to share their truths, stories and identity freely.

However there are still some issues concerning Indigenous recognition in Australia. Although today stereotypes and expectations still get in the way in terms of white people regarding indigenous people, their rights have certainly been recognised. But the Government still needs to keep improving and enforcing these rights until ultimately indigenous people are given the same opportunities and equal rights as white people. Since Kevin Rudd's apology there has not been a lot of change, therefore I believe that still a lot of laws need to be introduced that reflect the opinions and values of Indigenous people.

The progress of Indigenous Recognition in Australia has been extremely hard for Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander people, as they had to deal with the discrimination, prejudice and judgement from Non-aboriginals. This also includes the actions that we, as a nation, has done towards the indigenous people, such as the Stolen Generation, Assimilation, forcing Aboriginals onto reserves and the native title rights. I believe that Australia as a country has made sufficient progress in accepting Aboriginals as the traditional owners of this land, starting with Prime Minister Gough Whitlam pouring sand in Vincent Lingairri, representing the connection that Whitlam made, and the Apology that Kevin Rudd made in 2008, formally apologising for the treatment of Indigenous people in the past.

I believe recognition for Indigenous citizens has improved since the 20th century when children, now recognised as the stolen generation were forcibly taken from their families and conformed into white society. The mistreatment of Indigenous Australians began with the colonisation of Australia in 1788 with the declare of Australia being terra nullius. Since then, Aboriginal people and activists have fought for rights still not fully achieved. A milestone in Indigenous recognition was Kevin Rudd’s apology in 2007 although since then progression to recognition has been extremely little.

Indigenous Australians have faced inequality and injustice in previous years. Events such as the Native Title Act, Uluru statement, 1967 referendum and many others, have contributed to the recognition of the need for equality within Australia. I believe that by implementing the Uluru statement and creating equal laws will close the gap between Indigenous and white Australians and give the Indigenous Australians the recognition that they deserve within society. Since Kevin Rudd’s apology in 2008 Australia has come a long way in recognising the need for equality. Regardless of reconciliation, past policies that were implemented in Australia will always affect the Indigenous Australians.

As they are the traditional owners of our land, in our lifetime I would like to see the Indigenous people having a stronger voice in parliament. This would make our society more inclusive of different cultures. As they continue to struggle and fight for rights I hope to see Indigenous people resolve issues in the area of healthcare to enable all people to have access to regular check ups regardless of where they live. As well as healthy food programs set up to deal with nutrition gap between Indigenous and non Indigenous people. Most importantly though we need to ensure that Indigenous students have access to a good education that can help more Indigenous students read their full potential. Every small step in gaining equality helps Indigenous people move forward and ensure that one day we live in a world were there is no Gap between Indigenous and non Indigenous people! We need to reconcile the actions of the past to ensure our society can move forward and achieve equality.

In our lifetime it is incredibly important that we work towards change in our future and listen to the needs of Aboriginal people as outlined in the Uluru statement. It is important that we start listening to the needs of indigenous people and have a real focus on closing the gap between the nation's first peoples and 'white' people. We need to listen to this statement and not ignore the Indigenous people's needs and improvement requests as they are also a part of our society.
