HIV treatments primarily involve antiretroviral therapy (ART), which helps control the virus and prevent its progression. ART consists of a combination of medications that work to reduce the viral load in the body to undetectable levels. By maintaining an undetectable viral load, ART helps prevent the transmission of HIV to others. Consistent use of the treatment can significantly improve the quality of lifespan of individuals living with HIV. Regular medical check-ups and adherence to the prescribed treatment regimen are crucial for the effectiveness of HIV treatments.

HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) and AIDS(Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome) are closely related but distinct. HIV is a virus that attacks the immune system, specifically targeting CD4 cells (T Cells), which are crucial for fighting infections. Over time, if HIV is not treated, it ca. lead to AIDS, which is the final and most severe stage of HIV infection. AIDS is characterized by a severely weak immune system, making the body vulnerable to opportunistic infections and certain cancers. While HIV may not show symptoms for years, AIDS presents with severe symptoms such as weight loss, fever, fatigue, and frequent infections. HIV is diagnosed through blood tests and detects the virus and antibodies against it, whereas AIDS is diagnosed based on the presence of specific conditions or critical low CD4.

Sexually transmitted infections are infections that are primarily spread through sexual contact. They can be caused by bacteria, viruses, or parasites, with gonorrhea, syphilis, and HIV. STIs often do not show symptoms initially, which makes regular testing important for early detection and treatment. Preventative measures such as using condoms and having regular health check-ups can significantly reduce the risk of contracting STIs. Early treatment is crucial as untreated diseases can lead to serious health complications, including infertility and increased risk of acquiring other infections.
