Function
The National Library of Malaysia's core purpose is separated into three major activities: management, library development, and information services. Each activity is supported by a sub-activity or division to meet the National Library of Malaysia's goals and objectives.

Referral services is the reference service has many branches of services such as Information Packing Service, Newspaper Microfilm Service and others. The service helps users to refer to old research, microfilms or manuscripts.

Lending Services is the lending division provides book lending services to registered users. Registered users can borrow six books for a period of four weeks. The period of borrowed material is renewable for another four years from the date of renewal. Renewal of materials is allowed only once. Users will be charged a fine for the return of the material at 10 cents a day for each book. Loan services include adult loan units, children's loans, group loans and community library unit loans.

Community unit lending services NLM has established five community libraries. Community libraries are created as local information centers. This community library facilitates and speeds community access to reading materials in key urban centers.

Electronic resource services provides multimedia computer facilities equipped with internet for free use here. Users can access the internet, do secretarial work download information and hold training sessions. In addition, the center also provides free Wi-Fi facilities to enable users to access the internet using their gadgets and laptops. The showroom facilities are provided here for users to watch TV shows, movies and more. Users only need to book this room if they want to use this facility. Audio-visual facilities such as TV, cassette / CD / DVD player are also provided for users. Users can refer to the collection of audio visuals and electronic resources in various fields such as Management, Computer Science, Religion, Social Science, Language, Technology, Arts, History and more. The reference material is in the form of CDs, DVDs, audio cassettes, video tapes, and other domestic and international issues. Offers the Digital Library service, which is easily accessible here through the u-Library portal. Through this service users can access eMajalah, eBook, and eSurat subscription. In addition, users can also access open source eBooks from the portal. This service is accessible through the computer provided at PHD or through the respective gadgets and laptops. In order to access the contents of this electronic material users only need to register as a member of the u-Library. The staff on duty are always ready to assist with the guide and registration session for the portal. Users can easily watch animated movies with the Video on Demand service offered here. Watchable films are made up of the latest local and international films.

The information corner of the disabled Collections is the reading materials and information provided here are printed material in large print, braille books, learning cards and audio books (NLM publications and overseas publications). In addition, users can also access the audio books they subscribe to through databases such as Overdrive and EbscoHost here. Computer, Internet and Wi-Fi facilities provides 2 multimedia computers equipped with internet facilities are available here. These computers come with JAWS (Job Access With Speech) software to make it easy for the blind to access information and carry on secretarial work more easily. Free transportation is also provided for the disabled from the Association for the Blind Malaysia (MAB) to the National Library of Malaysia (roundtrip) service on a daily basis. Users must book five business days before using this service.

It holds an organized collection of books, other printed materials and special documents such as films and audio materials. Comprises library materials published in Malaysia and overseas whose whole or larger part of the content is related to the publications date or the language used.
