That often is the case. The reason for this is normally because students are used to being able to play at home and not having to learn for long periods of time. I do have some situations where this behavior was presented written out and what triggered them. We can go through them and talk through what happened, to come up with some supports that may help your child.

I understand that completely, but from their perspective, they're living in two different words that have really different rules. At home they're comfortable and have the people they know love and support them, here hopefully they still feel loved, but there's a lot more in their environment to stimulate them in different ways. Because of all the different factors, they're just reacting to their environment in different ways.

There are a lot of other factors influencing (student's name) at school. Not only do we have a classroom with various personalities and experiences, but (student) puts in a lot of work as well throughout the school day. Could you provide some background on the student's behavior at home

The school environment is very different than at home. At school students are mostly having to do things they don't want to do, whereas at home it is less structured every minute of the day. Students can often get antsy after long periods of sitting and having to be quiet. Having time at home in the evenings for your child to get out some of that pent up energy is a great way to help them regulate.

After the parent shares what exactly is going on, I would share whether or not I have noticed this happening. If I have noticed it, I would share the steps I have taken to prevent it. If I have not noticed it, I would ensure the parent that I will be keeping an eye out for this and that I will be having a conversation with the other student. I will also apologize for their child feeling this way in my classroom and that I want to nip it in the bud because I see pur class as a family.
