I think the most important aspect of using AI in education is incorporating AI literacy into Critical Media Literacy. It is incumbent upon us to teach our students how to identify, analyze, and evaluate all media including AI generated content in order to combat misinformation and disinformation. We need to teach our students how to critically read the world and understand how media shapes our world-view. Students should also be given the tools to be creators, not just consumers.

I think AI can transform learning if it is used correctly and with the goal of "learning" and not "generating answers." For example, I really enjoyed watching the TEDTalk from Dr. Kris Alexander and how he helped his wife create an online environment where she could do the same things she did in F2F classes. Except, this time, AI could actually create an animated character of her as a shark as she spoke. This was awesome because AI actually took the goal a step further. This time it wasn't just his wife creating a voice or pretending to be a shark, but students could literally see her as a shark. I think AI can do great things with maintaining engagement, again, if used in the right ways.

I like that we can use AI to help create and develop activities, especially for in-class activities. For adult learners, it can be challenging to find "fun" ways to present content so using AI can help get the creative juices going. It's not perfect, but I've found that it's a nice launchpad to refine and make engaging classrooms. I also think that to some of my classmates' points, literacy and understanding how to have AI help you is critical for it to be a useful tool.

I truly think there is a place for AI in education. The idea of helping students learn how to use it as a tool and not a crutch is key. To me, it is similar to Wikipedia, Google, and other search engine,s and if we teach students how to properly use this tool to enhance their learning instead of using it to circumvent the learning.

AI can transform learning to create equitable high-quality instruction across diverse environments by serving as 24/7 tutoring support for students. This is especially useful for students who may not have the resources to hire tutors for academic support nor have the proper guidance from teachers. For example, when I was in high school, it was common for us to have long-term substitutes when certain positions could not be filled. This slowed the pace of learning and made everything so redundant for me. Having a tool like this then would have helped me work through the content of the textbook on my own and not rely on my teacher.

It can encourage students with a variety of learning styles to use multimedia with projects and to identify the ways that they think about writing. It also provides a method for considering how visual culture and visual literacy influence students' culturally relevant experiences.
