Topic One: What Science Is and How it Works

Before NS 100, Science to me meant only facts and having the right answers. Science would be the way to find reliable answers with the right questions and experiments.

The "Why Science" article brought to light what Science really is and how it can be even better in classrooms. Science is the nature of observing the natural world, asking questions, finding answers, and asking more questions. Any subject that has you memorizing facts is absolutely boring. Scientists all over the world are solving the Earth's questions.

My experiences in Science will continue to enhance after NS 100 because Science is around us 24/7. I believe humans should be more aware of our planet and we as humans need to use our thinking skills in making our planet more sustainable to live.

Topic Two: How the Scientific Method Relates to Scientific Inquiry and How Inquiry-Based Learning Impacts Student Learning

Before NS 100, I was aware of the scientific method. During my K-12 education, I was introduced to the scientific method and was required to do projects with an observation or question of my own. Scientific inquiry was a new lesson to me.

Thanks to the "What is Inquiry-Based Science?" article, I learned more about scientific inquiry and how it is better to use this method in classrooms. With the scientific inquiry, students are using their skills to find evidence, to use their logic, and imagination to form data about the natural world. Scientific inquiry is considered more open-ended than the scientific method.

I can continue to grow in scientific inquiry by always using my critical thinking skills in solving my everyday life problems. If a problem is presented, I know I can find a way to solve it.

Topic Three: The Characteristics of Life and What It Means to Be Alive

Before NS 100, my thinking of life was basic and being alive meant surviving. All living things on Earth are fighting to survive.

Working on my Module 2 Science notebook gave me insight on what life is and how all living things are connected. Any living organism that eats, reproduces, and evolves is capable of life.

I can continue to grow in this topic by researching more ways on what it really means to be alive. I'm not sure anyone knows the real key meaning of being alive besides surviving.

Topic Four: How Microscopic Changes Have Macroscopic Effects

Before NS 100, I was not sure of what microscopic changes and macroscopic effects were entitled to. These two terms were not familiar to me.

After reading "What is Epigenetics", I learned that certain small changes such as a behavior or an environment can turn into a bigger change in one's genes. For example, germs are not visible to the naked eye, but once they enter a human body, we can actually see how much the germs affect their body.

From now on, I will be able to make connections between microscopic changes and the macroscopic effects they have.

I'm a big fan of Science and have always been interested in the subject. I was very excited to start NS 100.

It was very interesting to collaborate with a Science teacher and see how students are using their scientific inquiry skills. Just how I use my critical thinking skills in finding answers for the Module Science notebooks.

I will continue to grow in my science journey by asking for help from colleagues who have more experience in the subject.

I'm the type of person who would rather suffer in silence than to ask someone for help. Or I would rather figure it out myself.

Since starting NS 100, I am more aware and stepping out of my comfort zone to ask for required help. I'm very thankful for my cohorts at Reach and colleagues at work. Everyone is very willing to help and in the end we are all in this together.

I will continue to ask for help when matters become difficult for me. I'm very confident in the work I'm doing and I will succeed.
