The discovery of and use of stone tools and the modification of the stone to produce a tool for use, and the discovery of fire creation. The first allowed us to perform in nature at a physical level not provided for by natural selection. We as a species, are increadably weak, slow and our big brains are very energy hungry. This put us at a disadvantage on the savana. How could such a fragile creature survive in world such as the edge of the African plain. The answer is that big, energy hungry brain. This most complex of organs brought on to our weaknesses equalibrium. With none of the tools provided by evolution to our animal cousins, adaptation became the key to our survivle I think, when most people think of world heritage sites, they are most likely thinking of Great monuments like the Parthenon in Athens or Machu Picchu in Peru.
