These ribbons represent a fraction of the causes. Ribbons are worn to raise awareness and start conversations. Associating a cause with color promotes recognition and unity. As you can see, many ribbons are connected to multiple causes. These causes do not necessarily align in any way. If a person is wearing a ribbon you should not make assumptions about what they are promoting. Instead, you should ask questions and seek understanding. As a provider, it is our job to do the same with our clients. We must never make assumptions. Practicing cultural competence recognizes the complex aspects of a patient and ensures that all their beliefs and values are considered and respected.

I am grateful for the opportunity to take these courses on line. As a foster-to-adopt parent, think back to all of the training and continued education courses I have taken over the years and I I love the online format. I love being able to go back pause or re-watch sections. I will likely re-visit this training. I liked that they did the scenarios you could observe.

How can you help support someone with Depression?

Creating a mental health resource guide gave me insight to many different Mental Health Disorders. A common theme that I saw was that many of the disorders did not have a clear cause. Therefore, I would like to focus on helping resources.

This assignment allowed me to see that substance Use is a complex issue that has a profound effect on family systems. Roger's treatment plan was designed to address Roger's alcohol addiction as well as the precipitating factors that led to his alcohol abuse. The plan integrated counseling for Roger, his wife, and his family. It addressed the need for financial and occupational counseling and anger management.

Welcome! I am glad that you are here. My name is Sammi Rutschman (she/her). I am a student at Angelo State University earning a Master of Arts in Professional Counseling. I aim to earn credentials to become a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and then work in private practice or with not-for-profit organizations. I have a special interest in working with families.

This semester I am enrolled in Addictions Counseling and Introduction to Crisis, Trauma, and Mental Health Concerns. I am looking forward to gaining knowledge about mental health concerns as well as how addiction and trauma impact cognitive function. These courses will offer me valuable insights into my future role as a LPC.

This assignment revealed alarming statistics surrounding school violence. As a parent of high school aged children, I found this sobering. The week I turned this assignment in, my daughter's dance recital was evacuated due to a bomb threat.
