The Legend of Lake Toba

Once upon a time, there was a man who was living in north Sumatra. He lived in a simple hut in a farming field. He did some gardening and fishing for his daily life. One day, while the man was do fishing, he caught a big golden fish in his trap. It was the biggest catc which he ever had in his life. Surprisingly, this fish turned into a beautiful princess.
He felt in love with her and proposed her to be his wife. She said, "Yes, but you have to promise not to tell anyone about the secret that I was once a fish, otherwise there will be ahuge disaster". The man made the deal and they got married, live happily and had a daughter. Few years later, this daughter would help bringing lunch to her father out in the fields.
One day, his daughter was so hungry and she ate his father's lunch. Unfortunately, he found out and got furious, and shouted; "You damned daughter of a fish". The daughter ran home and asked her mother. The mother started crying, felt sad that her husband had broken his promise. Then she told her daughter to run up the hills because a huge disaster was about to come.
When her daughter left, she prayed. Soon there was a big earthquake followed by non-stop pouring rain. The whole area got flooded and became Toba Lake. She turned into a fish again and the man became the island of Samosir.

The legend of Telaga Warna

Long time ago, there was a kingdom in West Java. The kingdom was ruled by a king named His Majesty Prabu.

Prabu was a kind and wise king. But it was a pity that Prabu and his queen hadn’t got any children. The queen often cried. That was why Prabu went to the jungle. There he prayed to God every day, begging for a child.

A few months later, the queen got pregnant. Nine months later, a princess was born. Prabu and Queen loved their beautiful daughter so much. They gave whatever she wanted. It made Princess turn into a very spoiled girl.

One day, the princess celebrated her 17th birthday party. Many people gathered in the palace. Then, Prabu took out a necklace which was made from gold and jewel.

“My beloved daughter, today I give you this necklace. Please, wear this necklace,” said Prabu.

“I don’t want to wear it! It’s ugly!” shouted the princess. Then she threw the necklace. The beautiful necklace was broken. The gold and jewels were spread out on the floor. Everybody couldn’t say anything. They never thought that their beloved princess would do that cruel thing. In their silence, people heard the queen crying. Every woman felt sad and began crying, too. Then, everybody was crying. Then, there was a miracle. Earth was crying.

Nowadays, people called the lake “Telaga Warna”. It means “Lake of Color”. On a bright day, the lake is full of color. These colors come from shadows of forest, plants, flowers, and sky around the lake. But some people said that the colors are from the princess’s necklace, which spreads at the bottom of the lake.

But his mother would not allow him. He was worried about Malin. Malin still continued with his determination ... and finally he sailed with the big ship.
Several years later, Malin Kundang experienced success and he became a rich merchant. Later, he came to his native village with a beautiful wife, but his wife did not know who was actually Malin's descendant. His mother happily approached Malin and brought him a plate of cake, Malin's favorite cake. But Malin didn't recognize that woman as a bad mother as his mother, and then he kicked the cake brought by his mother until it was scatteredHis mother was very heartbroken because Malin rebelled, who had a very fast change. Then, his mother cursed Malin to stone. Suddenly, the big ship was tossed about by a great storm and all of its crew were thrown out. Malin realized that this was his mother's rebellious fault. Now he is sifted and turned to stone.

Borobudur Temple

Borobudur is Hindu - Budhist temple. It was build in the nineth century under Sailendra dynasty of ancient Mataram kingdom. Borobudur is located in Magelang, Central Java, Indonesia.

Borobudur is well-known all over the world. Its construction is influenced by the Gupta architecture of India. The temple is constructed on a hill 46 m high and consist of eight step like stone terrace. The first five terrace are square and surrounded by walls adorned with Budist sculpture in bas-relief. The upper three are circular.

Each of them is with a circle of bell shape-stupa. The entire adifice is crowned by a large stupa at the centre at the centre of the top circle. The way to the summit extends through some 4.8 km of passage and starways. The design of borobudur which symbolizes the structure of universe influences temples at Angkor, Cambodia

Borobudur temple which is rededicated as an Indonesian monument in 1983 is a
valuable treasure for Indonesian people.

The Legend of Rawa Pening

Once upon a time, there was a little poor boy came into a little village. He was very hungry and weak. He knocked at every door and asked for some food, but nobody cared about him. Nobody wanted to help the little boy.

Finally, a generous woman helped him. She gave him shelter and a meal. When the boy wanted to leave, this old woman gave him a “lesung”, a big wooden mortar for pounding rice. She reminded him, “please remember, if there is a flood you must save yourself. Use this “lesung” as a boat”. The “lesung” was happy and thanked the old woman.The little boy continued his journey. While he was passing through the village, he saw many people gathering on the field. The boy came closer and saw a stick stuck in the ground. People challenged each other to pull out that stick. Everybody tried, but nobody succeeded. “Can I try?” asked the little boy. The crowd laughed mockingly. The boy wanted to try his luck so he stepped forward and pulled out the stick. He could do it very easily. Everybody was dumbfounded.

Suddenly, from the hole left by stick, water spouted out. It did not stop until it flooded the village. And no one was saved from the water except the little boy and the generous old woman who gave him shelter and meal. As she told him, he used the “lesung” as a boat and picked up the old woman. The whole village became a huge lake. It is now known as Rawa Pening Lake in Salatiga, Central Java, Indonesia.

The legend of Rawa Pening originated from a village called Ngasem Village, located at the foot of Mount Telomoyo.

Unfortunately, there was a group of villagers from Pathok who were hunting and did not see the overall form of Baro Klinting.

They saw Baro Klinting's tail and cut the tail meat.

After finishing his meditation, Baro came to the Pathok residents to ask for food and drinks.

However, the condition of his shabby body full of wounds, so he was rejected by residents.

Only, an old widow named Nyai Latung who gave him food and drink.

After that, Baro Klinting stuck a stick. He held a contest, whoever managed to pull the stick then he is a great person.

Not a single villager was able to pull out a stick. Only, Baro Klinting managed to pull it out.

When the sticks were removed, the water gushed out very fast like a flood, the residents beat the gong, a sign of danger.

Hearing the gong, Nyai Latung climbed up the mortar according to Baro Klinting's message.

Over time, the flood became a large puddle in the form of a swamp with clear water. Nyai Latung named the submerged village Rawa Pening. Puddles of clear water that form a swamp.

Moral message

The message of the story of being arrogant or arrogant is a trait that is not commendable. Helping and helping each other is an exemplary trait regardless of background and social status.

When the captain gave the signal, the soldier stood in long line on the beach and waited for the swordfish to attack. Soon the swordfish came leaping and flying across the water. Wave after wave of then came. They noses, and many soldiers died.
Suddenly the little boy saw the raja sitting sadly beneath a tree. He ran to raja and said. “Please, Sir. I think I know how to stop the swordfish.”
“Do you. Indeed, little boy?” said the raja looking to cut at the boy’s bare feet and ragged clothes.
“Yes, Sir,” the boy said. “Tell the soldiers to take those banana trees over there. Then tie the trees together to make a wall to stop the fish.”
“That’s a wonderful idea,” said the raja. He turned to his captain. “Why didn’t you think of that, Captain? Tell your men to start at once.”
The captain looked angrily at the little boy before he told his men what to so. The soldiers cut the banana trees and tied them together with strong ropes. They used more ropes to pull the wall to the edge of the water. This time, when the swordfish came, they flew out of the water and their swords stuck in the wall of banana trees. They couldn’t move, and so it was easy for the soldiers to kill them.
“Well done, men.” Said the raja to the soldiers. “And thank you, little boy,” he said to the boy.
The little boy bowed to the raja and ran back to his home on the hill by the sea. The raja thoughtfully watched him go. That’s very clever child,” he said to the captain.
The captain was still angry because the boy had made him look stupid. “Perhaps, Sir, he is too clever. Clever little boy can grow into dangerous man.”
The raja thought about this, and the more he thought the more he worried. A few days later the captain came to see him again.
“Sir” he said. “I am worried about that little boy. He is too clever. Some day, he will make a lot of trouble for us.”
“You are right, Captain,” said the raja. “I think we should stop him now, before it’s too late.”
“Good,” said the captain. “I’ll take care of it tonight.”
That night the captain and some of his soldiers climbed the hill where the little boy lived. They quietly went into his house and killed him with their swords.
The little boy’s blood ran freely down the hill. Soon the whole hill had turned red, and it is red to this every day. When the people heard what raja’s captain had done, they named this place Redhill. And even now, they remember the story of the clever little boy who stopped the swordfish.The story of Redhill

So the raja brought his army down to the sea to fight the swordfish. Many people came to watch the battle, and among them was a very clever little boy. The little boy watched the soldier in their uniform, their long swords shining in the sun. he thought to himself that he would like to be a soldier when he grew up.

The Legend of Kesodo Feast in Mount Bromo

Hundreds years ago, the last king of Majapahit had a young princess from one of his wives. The princess was named Roro Anteng. Later, Roro Anteng married Joko Seger, who came from Brahman caste.

Because of unfortunate situation the couple was forced to leave the kingdom. They settled in the mountain area. They ruled the area and named it Tengger, which was derived from their names, Roro Anteng and Joko Seger.

After several years of reign, the region flourished in prosperity, but Roro Anteng and Joko Seger were sad because they did not have a child. They climbed the top of mountain and prayed there night and day hoping that the God would listen. The prayer was heard and Betoro Bromo promised to give them many children. However, they had to promise that they would sacrifice their youngest child in return.

Roro Anteng gave birth to a child, then another and another. In the end, Roro Anteng and Joko Seger had 25 children. Soon it was time to sacrifice the youngest child , Kusuma, but the parents could not do it. They tried to hide him, but an eruption happened and Kusuma fell into the crater. There was silence before they heard a voice. “I have to be sacrificed so that you will all stay alive. From now on, you should arrange an annual offering ceremony on the 14th of Kesodo (the twelfth month of Tengerese calendar)”. It was Kusuma’s voice. Kusuma’s brothers and sisters held the offering ceremony every year. Instead of human being, they collected fruits, vegetables, rice, and meat to be offer to the Gods. And this has been done generation after generation until today.

The Story of Sangkuriang and Tangkuban Perahu Mountain

Once, there was a kingdom in Priangan Land. There lived a happy family. They were a father in the form of a dog. His name is Tumang; a mother which was called Dayang Sumbi; and a child who was called Sangkuriang.
One day, Dayang Sumbi asked her son to go hunting with his lovely dog, Tumang. After hunting all day, Sangkuriang began desperate and worried because he hunted no deer. Then he thought to shoot his own dog. Then he took the dog's liver and carried home.

Soon Dayang Sumbi found out that it was not a deer's liver but Tumang's, his own dog. So, she got very angry and hit Sangkuriang's head. In that incident, Sangkuriang got wounded and scar then cast away from their home.

Years go by, Sangkuriang had traveled to many places and finally arrived at a village. He met a beautiful woman and fell in love with her. When they were discussing their wedding plans, the woman looked at the wound in Sangkuriang's head. It matched her son's wound who had left several years earlier. Soon she realized that she fell in love with her own son.
She couldn't marry him but she didn't know how to say it. Then, she found the way. She needed a lake and a boat for celebrating their wedding day. Sangkuriang had to make them in one night. He built a lake. With dawn, just a moment away and the boat was almost complete. Dayang Sumbi had to stop it. Then, she lit up the eastern horizon with flashes of the light. It made the cock crowded for a new day.

Sangkuriang failed to marry her. He became very angry and kicked the boat. It fell over and became the mountain of Tangkuban Perahu.

Jaka Tarub and Seven Angels

Long long time ago, there lived an old woman with her son in a small village in Java. The name of the boy is Jaka Tarub. He was a diligent boy. He always help his mother on the rice field. As he grew older, he became a strong and handsome man. He loves his mother so much and he was always kind to her. They lived happily together until one day the old woman passed away, leaving Jaka Tarub all by himself. Everything started to change after that, Jaka Tarub started to lose his spirit to work. He spent most of his time staring at the ceiling of his house and daydreaming.
One day, Jaka Tarub dreamt of eating deer meat. So when he woke up in the morning, he decided to go to the forest to hunt a deer. He brought his blowpipe with him. He wandered in the forest from the morning till the afternoon but he didn’t find any deer or mousedeer. He didn’t realize that he got deeper into the forest until he was very tired and he decided to take a rest under a big tree near a small lake. It was windy at that moment and Jaka Tarub fell asleep right away.
A few moments later, Jaka Tarub woke up because he heard women laughing in a distance. He was curious about the voice, so he decided to check it. It turned out that the voice was coming from the lake, Jaka Tarub took a peek from a bush next to the lake and he saw seven beautiful women who turned out to be angels were having fun in the lake. Jaka Tarub was amazed by their exceptional beauty. He also saw some beautiful scarf near the lake. He thought that it must be their scarf so he decided to take one of it and hide it.
After that, Jaka Tarub kept watching the angels until they finish playing in the lake. The angels started preparing themselves to return to the sky, but one of them couldn’t find her scarf, her name was Nawangwulan. The other angels asked Nawangwulan to be hurry because they have to return to the sky right away. Nawangwulan cried because she still couldn’t locate her scarf and she couldn’t fly to the sky without it. Her sisters took pity on her but they couldn’t do anything and it was time for them to return to the sky, so they left Nawangwulan alone on earth.
Nawangwulan just stayed there alone and cried. Jaka Tarub who watched her from distance all this time tried to approach her. He pretended to ask her about what has happened to her so she cried like that. Nawangwulan who had no idea that Jaka Tarub was the one who hide her scarf tried to explain to him that her sister left her alone at the lake. Jaka Tarub offered her his help to be her companion. After that, Jaka Tarub invite her to his house and she agreed to go there.
The life of Jaka Tarub started to change. With the presence of Nawangwulan in his life, Jaka Tarub found his spirit back to work on the rice field. They filled each other life with happiness until a couple months later they decided to get married. Jaka Tarub became even happier after that. He loves his wife so much that it gave him energy to work double than he used to do. Their life became more complete when Nawangwulan gave birth to their first child. It was a girl and they named her Nawangsih.
Since they got married, Nawangwulan asked her husband to promise one thing to her. The promise was Jaka Tarub should never open the cooking pan whenever Nawangwulan was cooking rice. Jaka Tarub agreed to this request. But, one day when Nawangwulan left the kitchen for a while, Jaka Tarub opened the cooking pan and checked what was in it. Jaka Tarub asked for her forgiveness and he also asked her to stay with him and their daughter. But Nawangwulan has made up her mind to return to the sky and nothing will be able to change that. Before she left, Nawangwulan asked to Jaka Tarub to build a small hut in front of their house and she also asked him to put their daughter in the hut every night so she could fed her and took care of her. After that Nawangwulan flew to the sky and left Jaka Tarub with their child. Jaka Tarub fulfill Nawangwulan’s request and he built the small hut as she instructed.
After that, Jaka Tarub can only watch his daughter and his wife playing at the hut from his house. Every night, Nawangwulan came to the hut to take care of Nawangsih until she fell asleep and then Nawangwulan returned to the sky after that. It happened every day until Nawangsih grew older. Although they never see each other again when Nawangsih has grown up, but every time they needed something, help will come right away, and they believe it was from Nawangwulan.

Went To Parangtritis

Last week i went to parangtriris. I went to parangtritis beach with my friend. We went to parangtritis by motor cycle. We started our trip to Parangtritis at 7 o'clock in the morning. Parangtritis beach was located in the south of jogjakarta city, my house was in the middle of the city. So it took quite lot time on the motor cycle.

After one hour rode my motor cycle, my friend and me arrived at the beach. Parang tritis was a beautiful beach. It was holiday, so many people came to Parangtritis to spent their time.

After we parked our motorcycle my friend and me walked to the seashore. We took of our shoes and walked on the sand. I could feel the soft sand under my feet. It was a fun to walk on the sand. The wind blew softly at Parang Tritis. And the sun shone quite bright on the sky. But there were some cloud on the sky, so it was not too hot.

We saw the wave rolling beautifully on the sea. A lot of people already swam at the beach. My friend and me did not bring another clothes, so we could not swim. But my friend and me still can enjoyed the the beach. We walked on the beach and touched the water. The water of the sea is cold. Actually I wanted to swim. But my friend din't agree because we did not bring another clothes.

Then we stopped at one of the food seller at the beach. We bought coconuts for the drink. It was so delicious. It was the best to drink coconuts at the beach.

At 12 o'clock it was getting hotter at the Parangtritis beach. So, my friend and me decided that it was our time to leave the beach. It was a fun holiday at the beach. I would like to go to Parangtritis again next time. And next time I would bring changing clothes so I could swim on the beach.

The man tried to teach the bird to say Catano however the bird kept not saying the word. At the first, the man was very nice to the bird but then he got very angry. “You stupid bird!” pointed the man to the parrot.

“Why can’t you say the word? Say Catano! Or I will kill you” the man said angrily. Although he tried hard to teach, the parrot would not say it. Then the man got so angry and shouted to the bird over and over; “Say Catano or I’ll kill you”. The bird kept not to say the word of Catano.
One day, after he had been trying so many times to make the bird say Catano, the man really got very angry.

He could not bear it. He picked the parrot and threw it into the chicken house. There were four old chickens for next dinner “You are as stupid as the chickens. Just stay with them” Said the man angrily. Then he continued to humble; “You know, I will cut the chicken for my meal. Next it will be your turn, I will eat you too, stupid parrot”. After that he left the chicken house.

The next day, the man came back to the chicken house. He opened the door and was very surprised. He could not believe what he saw at the chicken house. There were three death chickens on the floor. At the moment, the parrot was standing proudly and screaming at the last old chicken; “Say Catano or I’ll kill you”.

Once upon a time, there was a peaceful kingdom in central java. The king of the kingdom was kind and he had a beautiful daughter who he loved so much. The king also had great horses that he even asked a servent, named Suta to take care of them intensively.
Suta was a good servant, he did a great duty for king's horses and the king apreciated his great duty. His duty was to look after the king's horses, gave them food, cleaned the horses and their mews. Suta liked to take a walk after doing his chores to relax for awile.
One day, when Suta was walking near a lake after doing his chores, he heard a woman screaming. So, Suta hurried to find the source of the scream. Finally, he found a girl there, who leter figured out as king's daughter. He saw the king's daughter in danger. There was a giant snake would attack her.
Suta was afraid, but he also worried about the princess. So he took a big stick and hit the snake on its head. The snake was fallen down in pain and finally died.
"Thank you, Suta. You've saved my life," said the princess.
"No needed for that princess. It's my duty as your father's servant to help you." Suta replied
"Would you be my friend, Suta. Because I don't have any friend." the princess asked.
"Of course my princess, I will be your friend and always take care of you." Suta answered.
Since that day, Suta and the princess became good friends. They even fallen in love each other. So, the princess told Suta to go to her father and asked his permission to marry her. But the king had already heared about their plan. The king was furious to hear about that so he asked the princess to meet him.
"My lovely daughter, I have already known about your plan. Suta is just a servant while you are my daughter, the princess. It is unacceptable for you to marry a servant." said the king.
"But I love her, and he also love me. You know, he is the one who help me out there." the princess said.
"No, you will not marry him. I will not allow that things happen." The king said.
The princess was sad to hear her father's answer, especially after her father throwed Suta in jail for having the nerve to ask the pricess to marry him. In jail, Suta was not given anything to eat or drink.
Hearing about that, the princess made a plan to break Suta out of jail. They succeed and run far away for the kingdom. They rested near the river. There, they got married and started a family.
The place where Suta and the princess raised their family was called Baturraden. Batur means servant while Raden means noble. Nowadays, Baturaden is very interesting tourism spot. It's located at the foothill of Mount Slamet in Purwokerto, Central Java.

The giant came and asked the widow for Timun Mas. The widow refused to tell him and so he went into the jungle. He angrily called out for Timun Mas. Timun Mas heard his voice and ran away from him. The giant chased her. Timun Mas threw the salt that the widow had given her. It turned the jungle into a muddy field. The muddy field swallowed the giant and he was never seen again. Finally, Timun Mas returned home and lived happily ever after with the old widow.

The next day, he went to see the goose again and found that it had laid another golden egg.

Now, the man and his wife had a lot of money. They could buy many things that they wanted because the geese kept laying an egg each day. They both became the richest family in their town by buying a new large and luxurious house.

One day, an idea crossed the man’s mind, “Hmmm, if the goose lays a golden egg every day, so there must be many golden eggs inside of its stomach.” Then he took a knife from the kitchen and walked toward the goose’s coop, “All I need to do is cut its stomach and I will get more golden eggs,” said him greedily. He caught the geese and cut open its stomach. However, he could not find any golden eggs inside it.

The man was very disappointed and felt really guilty after killing the goose. He realized that he had done a terrible mistake. Now, it was dead and there would be no more golden eggs for him.

He wanted them to know that he wasn’t the same anymore, he had his own company, car, condo, etc. He had made it in life!

Before the guy can realize, the couple was walking towards a cemetery, and he got out of his car and followed them…and he saw his ex girlfriend, a photograph of her smiling sweetly as ever at him from her tombstone… and he saw his precious paper cranes in a bottle placed beside her tomb. Her parents saw him.He walked over and asked them why this had happened. They explained that she did not leave for France at all. She was stricken ill with cancer. In her heart, she had believed that he will make it someday, but she did not want her illness to be his obstacle … therefore she had chosen to leave him.

She had wanted her parents to put his paper cranes beside her, because, if the day comes when fate brings him to her again, he can take some of those back with him. The guy just wept.

Once upon a time, Cinderella lived with her mother and father. Sadly, her mother was died and her father got remarried. Her stepmother had two daughters, so Cinderella had two step sisters. They were so nice to her and Cinderella was so happy about that.

One day, her father had to go to out of town for working. Cinderella was left at home with her stepmother and step sisters. They acted differently towards her. They were so cruel and asked Cinderella to be their maid. She was so sad about that.

After few days, Cinderella got bad news that her father was died in accident while working. Her stepmother and step sisters treated Cinderella even worse. She was not allowed to have a good meal , dresses, shoes, and stuff, and proper room and bed for her.

On the other side, there was a King that looking for a wife for her son. Therefore, he held a party and invited all the girls. Cinderella wanted to come to the party, but her stepmother and step sisters definitely forbade her to come. She was so sad looking her stepmother and step sisters went there beautifully.

A fairy felt so sorry about her and helped her by giving her beautiful dress, shoes, and train to go there. She went there and met the Prince. They danced all along the night. Unfortunately, she had to be back at home before 12 or she turned into the way she before. They were separated, but Cinderella accidentally left her shoe, because she was in hurry.

Next day, the Kingdom especially the Prince looked for the owner of the shoe. All girls tried to wear that shoe, but no one seemed to be the owner. Cinderella appeared and tried the shoe. She was the owner of the shoe, so the shoe fitted on her. The Prince was so happy that he finally met her. Cinderella and the Prince got married and lived happily ever after.

Year go by, Sangkuriang had travel many places and finally arrived at a village. He met a beautiful woman and felt in love with her. When they were discussing their wedding plans, The woman looked at the wound in Sangkuriang’s head. It matched to her son’s wound who had left severall years earlier. Soon she realized that she felt in love with her own son.

She couldn’t marry him but how to say it. Then, she found the way. She needed a lake and a boat for celebrating their wedding day. Sangkuriang had to make them in one night. He built a lake. With a dawn just moment away and the boat was almost complete. Dayang Sumbi had to stop it. Then, she lit up the eastern horizon with flashes of light. It made the cock crowed for a new day.

Sdiangkuriang failed to marry her. She was very angry and kicked the boat. It felt over and became the mountain of Tangkuban Perahu Bandung.

One day, Pinocchio felt bored and it made him go home late. When Pinocchio finally came home, Geppetto asked him. He said that he was on school but he wasn’t. Instantly, Pinocchio's nose grew longer and longer and it meant that Pinocchio has lied.
The next morning, Pinocchio was kidnaped by the owner of circus. Pinocchio soon became a slave for the circus. He was so famous because he was a puppet which can talk. Geppetto worried about him because Pinocchio had not been going home for almost two days. He tried to find Pinocchio everywhere but he found nothing. When he searched him on the sea, big wave smashed him. He was then in whale's stomach when he awoke. He couldn't find the way to go out.
In the other side, Pinocchio finally could escape out from the circus. He came home but nobody was there. Latter on, he searched Geppetto in the sea. He got the same accident like Geppetto and he met Geppetto in whale's stomach. Both of them got out from its stomach by making a fire. In the end of the story, they went home together and lived happily ever after.

Ulu, a Green Frog, was standing by the pond. That day the sky was very dark and days like that Ulu liked. Not long after, water began to drip slowly from the sky.

"The rain has arrived!" Ulu shouted excitedly. Ulu started humming while jumping around the pool. He saw the little ant was taking shelter behind the sunflower.

"O Ants, the rain has come, don't hide!" Ulu shouted to the Ant who was trying hard to avoid the raindrops.

The ant sighed and looked at Ulu deeply, “Ulu, I don't like rain. You see how tiny I am? The rainwater will drag and drown me into the pool! I can't swim like you, that's why I took shelter," said the Ant.

“That's why Ant, you should practice swimming! I've been able to swim since I was a tadpole, can't you? Swimming is so easy, just stick your leg out," Ulu stuck out her leg, "and kick it back like this! Oops, sorry, your legs are short.”

“Hey Bird, why don't you want to go out and enjoy the rain? Are you afraid of getting your fur wet? Or are you afraid of sinking into the pool like Ants? Or is it that you can't enjoy the beauty of rain like a fish?" After saying that, Ulu laughed loudly.

The bird looked at Ulu who was still laughing, "Hey Ulu, can you come up here?" Ulu is confused.

"Can you climb up here, Ulu?"

“What do you mean Bird? Of course I can't!” Ulu pouted and looked down at her two feet. Ulu regrets having short legs so he can't fly.

“Ulu, don't you know that the Creator made us with different uniqueness? I can't swim like you and Fish, but I can fly around the sky.

Bird again said wisely, “That's what I mean Ulu, we each have our own advantages. Ants can't swim like you, but they can sneak into small places you can't get past. Fish can't jump around like you, but they breathe underwater. You shouldn't insult them!"

Ulu began to realize that his actions were wrong. Ulu secretly thought that his actions were not right. He should not boast of his advantages and insult his friends.

"I'm sorry, Bird." said Ulu while looking sadly at the Ants and Fish who had been watching their conversation.

"I'm sorry Ant, Fish, all this time I have offended you."

From then on, Ulu began to appreciate his friends and they liked him again.

In a faraway kingdom, there was an empire led by a king and queen. The king led his region with a very wise and prudent. Despite being a king, their life was less happy because they did not have a child. It made the king and queen became sad.

Then one day the queen gave birth to a beautiful little daughter named Princess Aurora. The birth of the little princess made the king and the entire kingdom happy. The king was making a big celebration to welcome his daughter. He invited all the people in the kingdom, including all the fairies that live in the kingdom. The king invited them to ask for their blessing. But the king forgot to invite all the fairies in the kingdom. The facts that there were 13 fairies in kingdom but the king only invited 12 fairies.

When the celebration party was running on, all of the fairies invited by king surrounded the little princess to give a blessing. One by one fairy was utter blessings. One fairy gave blessing of goodness, another fairy gave blessing of health, and the next fairy gave blessing of beautiful voice and so on. When the 12th fairy was about to give her blessing, the 13th fairy who were not invited by the king come. She was very angry and could not accept this humiliation.

The 13th fairy was not giving a blessing to the little princess, she even cursed her. The 13th fairy said, “When the baby is 16 years old, she will be pricked by a needle and fall asleep for a long time”. After saying that curse the 13th fairy left the palace using her broomstick. Everyone in the palace was shocked and saddened as well as the king and queen. One hot day, an ant was seeking for some water. After walking around for a moment, she came to a spring. To reach the spring, she had to climb up a blade of grass. While making her way up, she slipped and fell unintentionally into the water.

She could have sunk if a dove up a nearby tree had not seen her. Seeing that the ant was in trouble, the dove quickly put off a leaf from a tree and dropped it immediately into the water near the struggling ant. Then the ant moved towards the leaf and climbed up there. Soon it carried her safely to dry ground.

Not long after at that, there was a hunter nearby who was throwing out his net towards the dove, hoping to trap it in this way.

Guessing what he should do, the ant quickly bit him on the heel. Feeling the pain, the hunter dropped his net and the dove flew away quickly from this net.

The Legend Of Prambanan Temple

Once, there was a beautiful Javanese princess whose name was Rara Jonggrang. Rara Jonggrang whose beauty was very famous in the land was the daughter of Prabu Baka, and evil king.

One day, a handsome young man with super natural power named Bandung Bondowoso defeated and killed Prabu Baka. On seeing Princess Rara Jonggrang’s beauty, Bandung Bondowoso fell in love with her and wanted to marry her.

Meanwhile, Princess Rara jonggrang felt sad due to her death father. She did not want to marry Bandung because he had killed her father. But she was also afraid of Bandung. So to refuse politely, she made a condition. “I will marry you but you have to build one thousand temples in one night as a wedding gift” requested Rara Jonggrang. Bandung Bondowoso agreed with the condition.

Helped by the spirit of the demons, Bandung Bondowoso started building the temples. Approaching midnight, the work would nearly be done. Rara Jonggrang knew and thought, “What shall I do? Bandung Bondowoso is smarter than I thought. I would lose against Bandung.”

Suddenly she got an idea. She woke up all the women in the palace and ordered them to make the noisy sounds of grinding rice so that the rooster thought that it had already been dawn. Bandung Bondowoso got frustrated because he failed completing one, the thousandth temple.

The Princess has deceived me!” Following his anger, he cursed Roro Jonggrang, “You have been cheated. Now, the thousandth temple is you!”

At once, the Princess turned into a statue. knowing this, Bandung Bondowoso regretted and he went away into a farm land. From then, people called the temple, Prambanan Temple, and the Princess statue, Rara Jonggrang statue.

They were excited about this and spent so much time choosing the dresses they would wear. At last, the day of the ball came, and away went the sisters to it. Cinderella could not help crying after they had left.

“Why are crying, Cinderella?” a voice asked. She looked up and saw her fairy godmother standing beside her, “because I want so much to go to the ball” said Cinderella. “Well” said the godmother,”you’ve been such a cheerful, hardworking, uncomplaining girl that I am going to see that you do go to the ball”.

Magically, the fairy godmother changed a pumpkin into a fine coach and mice into a coachman and two footmen. Her godmother tapped Cinderella’s raged dress with her wand, and it became a beautiful ball gown. Then she gave her a pair of pretty glass slippers. “Now, Cinderella”, she said; “You must leave before midnight”. Then away she drove in her beautiful coach.

Cinderella was having a wonderfully good time. She danced again and again with the king’s son. Suddenly the clock began to strike twelve, she ran toward the door as quickly as she could. In her hurry, one of her glass slipper was left behind.

A few days later, the king’ son proclaimed that he would marry the girl whose feet fitted the glass slipper. Her step sisters tried on the slipper but it was too small for them, no matter how hard they squeezed their toes into it. In the end, the king’s page let Cinderella try on the slipper. She stuck out her foot and the page slipped the slipper on. It fitted perfectly.

Finally, she was driven to the palace. The king’s son was overjoyed to see her again. They were married and live happily ever after.

"The Ugly Duckling"

A little duckling was terribly unhappy because he thought he was the ugliest amongst all his brothers and sisters. They’d not play with him and titillated the poor ugly duckling. Deep within the forest, he saw a cottage in which there lived an old lady, her hen, and her cat. The duckling stayed with them for a few times however he was sad there and shortly left. Once the winter set in, the poor duckling nearly froze to death. A peasant took him home to his woman and kids. The poor duckling was afraid of the kids and escaped. The ugly duckling spent the winter in a very marshy lake.

Finally, spring arrived. One day, the duckling saw a gorgeous swan swimming within the lake and fell in love with her. Then again he remembered how everybody made fun of him and he bent his head down in shame. Once he saw his own reflection in the water he was astonied. He wasn’t an unsightly duckling any longer, but a handsome young swan! Now, he knew why he had looked so completely different from his brothers and sisters. “They were ducklings but I used to be a baby swan!” he said to himself. He married the gorgeous swan and lived happily ever once.

Once upon a time there lived a girl called Cinderella. she was happy live with her father and mother. until her mother died dead and her father had married a widow with two daughters. Her stepmother didn’t like her one little bit. But, for the poor unhappy girl, there was nothing at all. Her stepmother has two daughters and they were very bossy. No rest and no comfort. She had to work hard all day. Only when evening came was she allowed to sit for a while by the fire, near the cinders. That’s why everybody called her Cinderella.

Cinderella used to spend long hours all alone talking to the cat. The cat always said, “Miaow“, which really meant, “Cheer up! You have something neither of your stepsisters has and that is beauty.” It was quite true. Cinderella, even dressed in old rags, was a lovely girl. While her stepsisters, no matter how splendid and elegant their clothes, were still clumsy, lumpy and ugly and always would be.

One day, beautiful new dresses arrived at the house. A ball was to be held at the palace and the stepsisters were getting ready to go. Cinderella didn’t even dare ask if she could go too. She knew very well what the answer would be: “You? You’re staying at home to wash the dishes, scrub the floors and turn down the beds for your stepsisters.” They will come home tired and very sleepy. With a flick of the magic wand the pumpkin turned into a sparkling coach and the mice became six white horses, while the seventh mouse turned into a coachman in a smart uniform and carrying a whip. Cinderella could hardly believe her eyes.

“You shall go to the ball Cinderella. But remember! You must leave at midnight. That is when my spell ends. Your coach will turn back into a pumpkin and the horses will become mice again. You will be dressed in rags and wearing clogs instead of these glass slippers! Do you understand?” Cinderella smiled and said, “Yes, I understand!”

Cinderella had a wonderful time at the ball until she heard the first stroke of midnight!
