This evidence proves that it is not friendly and lighthearted because of the scientific language such as pheromones. Another example from the article, "Dolphins," dolphins can speak to each other by "slapping their flukes..." This evidences shows that the tone does not convey a light-hearted or friendly tone because the text uses an uncommon term that some people may not initially understand such as "flukes." Many may believe that the article can have a friendly and lighthearted tone because the photos of the communicating baby lion and porcupine make the article seem less serious. However, these photos are used to grab the reader's attention. In the sidebar, "Now You're Speaking My Language," the "female lowland gorilla" Koko can comprehend about 2,000 words verbally and more than 500 signs. This evidence proves that the tone is not light hearted and friendly because the author uses concise and fact-based language. As stated in "Dolphins," "When dolphins are in trouble... they seem to voice a special distress call." This proves that the tone is not friendly and light-hearted because the author uses more mature language instead of less advanced vocabulary. Lastly, in "Bees" the author states that bees have "at least 36 pheromones." This evidences does not convey a light hearted and friendly tone. The author did this in many ways such as asking a question in the side bar about Gorillas it states "How about animals communicating to humans?" This shows a friendly tone by asking the reader or audience a question to draw them into the writing, or to show what the reader will read about. It also shows the animal noises such as "moo" "neigh" and a dogs bark. This shows a lighthearted tone showing sounds the animals make. The article also states "Two gorillas named Koko and Michael" this illustrates a friendly tone by showing the reader the names of the gorillas and pulling them in. The article "Say What?" also retorts "they (the gorillas) have been taught to understand spoken English and use sign language to talk to the human trainers" this this gives the article a friendly tone because it is saying how the animals can communicate with their trainers. The author also has in the left sidebar, a lion and a porcupine communicating with each other ; the lion roars and the porcupine replies "Sorry. I don't speak lion."
