         <title>A - A. Water from underneath Earth’s surface evaporates due to heat. This water turns into water vapor in the air. The presence of this water vapor in the air makes it look like there is water on Earth’s surface since the light reflects off the water vapor. Since water vapor is in a gas form, liquid water isn’t actually present. </title>

         <title>B- B. Radiation from the sun heats Earth’s surface and Earth’s surface conducts that heat to the air directly above it. Therefore, the layer of air closest to Earth’s surface is hotter than the air above it. This difference in air temperature causes a difference in air density. This difference in the density of the air layers causes light to bend as it travels between them. This light bending is called refraction. The refraction of light looks very similar to what reflection off the surface of water would look like, causing the appearance of water in the mirage. </title>

         <title>C. Radiation from the Sun heats Earth’s surface. Heat rises off of Earth’s surface in a wave-like pattern. As the surface gets hotter, more heat rises producing many interlocking waves. When these heat waves interlock, they reflect the sunlight in the same way that water would reflect it. This causes the appearance of water although it isn’t actually present. </title>

         <title>D. Leftover gasoline from cars that passed over the road is being heated by the Sun’s rays. When gasoline is heated enough, it starts to burn and evaporate off of the earth’s surface. When this gasoline burns and evaporates, it rises into the air and distorts our vision. This distortion of our vision makes it look like there is water on the road when there really isn’t. </title>

         <title>E. Due to the fact that the road is black, it is able to absorb a lot of the Sun’s energy. As the asphalt absorbs more energy from the Sun, it gets hotter. As it heats up, its ability to absorb visible light increases, causing it to look “shiny” from a distance. This “shiny” appearance makes it appear as if the asphalt were made out of water. </title>
