Ponyboy sees the Socs as rich, privileged kids who will never understand what it's like to struggle. But as he gets to know them, he realizes that pain, fear, and loneliness exist on both sides, proving they have more in common than he thought.

From the very beginning we see how economy separates the Greaser and the Socs. This socio-economically influenced stereotype plays a huge role in the events that happen. Because the Greasers are lower class, they are picked on. Socs have more economic power, making them way more superior, which is proved wrong in the rumble later on.

In the novel, we are introduced to two social groups, the socs and the greasers. Each group has made up stereotypes about the other. The Socs see the greasers as troublemakers and reckless people who do whatever they want. The greasers see the socs as snobby people who think that they are superior to others. We get to see that these stereotypes are not entirely true.

The book Outsiders uses symbolism like sunsets and the greasers' hair. This represents the themes of innocence, identity. This shares humanity between the characters despite having different social backgrounds.

-Changing perspective Ponyboy changed his perspective. At the start of the novel, he saw the Socs as spoiled rich kids. He saw them as mean guys who beat up greasers for fun. His mother and father were both gone, and he lived with his brothers. But slowly, he saw that the Socs had problems too. In one part of the story, he talked to one Soc and he changed the way he viewed them. Maybe some of them are not bad.---Let me know if you'd like it edited or formatted differently!
