#1 Richard’s idea

In California, MTSS is an integrated, comprehensive framework that focuses on CCSS, core instruction, differentiated learning, student-centered learning, individualized student needs, and the alignment of systems necessary for all students’ academic, behavioral, and social success.

I chose this sentence because it first defines MTSS, but also because it helps me to be able to answer the essential question. As a student, I understood that I was always expected to adapt to the expectations of the teacher. Now I am learning that sometimes the teacher should adapt their practice to the expectations of the students. Differentiated learning, allows me to see that I need to differentiate my teaching methods. Student-centered learning, tells me that the students’ ability to learn is the primary focus and my ability to teach effectively is evident by whether or not they learn. Individualized student needs, helps me to realize that some students need to be taught in a different way than the rest of the class. Not everyone learns the same way, as an instructor, it is up to me to discover the method that works for each student that does not learn in a conventional teaching style.

According to California Department of Education, "Multi-Tired System of Support (MTSS) is not designed for consideration in special education placement decisions, such as specific learning disability.
Differentiated Learning for all Students

"MTSS offers the potential to create needed systematic change through intentional design and redesign of services and supports that quickly identify and match the needs of all students."

I chose this quote because it helped me to create a clear picture of what MTSS can do for all students. A Multi-Tiered System of Support can help all students from different backgrounds achieve excellence in learning their common core state standards. This system also utilizes UDL or Universal Design for learning which is the process of creating content that is differentiated for all types of learners. MTSS is a very excellent way of teaching because it addresses the needs of students quickly through a process of steps and pathways. I have learned through MTSS and some of our other curriculum that differentiated instruction is the key to student success. From student teaching it has become very clear that all students learn in their own ways and at their own pace. So, it is important to have a curriculum that teaches students in different ways and give them all equal opportunities to learn.
Image:
https://pbs.twimg.com/profile_images/897493784262459393/m4SpwfoG.jpg

Link:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/10W0DFX109fpl_wNO3PaAz6kN6nubYSEzr3IopBQGf-o

In comparison to Rtl2, the MTSS has "a broader approach, addressing the needs of all students by aligning the entire system of initiatives, supports, and resources, and by implementing continuous improvement processes at all levels of the system."

I chose this sentence because it highlights MTSS as a support system for all learners, not just struggling students. Following a multi-tiered approach, students are supported across multiple domains (academically, social-emotionally, and behaviorally) utilizing a plethora of resources to meet CCSS. MTSS creates a network among teachers through professional learning communities, and includes administrators, specialists, interventionists and parents to support students at any level or tier (Rtl2). Considering the essential question, students should adapt to the expectations that have been set when they receive the appropriate support that is needed to meed such expectations, as outlined by MTSS.

Link: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1og7LUHqJqyDoW6NzgdFOEYiOzE6a8zmV26ySo4PUW0E/edit?usp=sharing
