So much to learn yet little time to explore... I found my excellent MOOC course at Coursera.org. Coursera Inc. was founded in 2012 by two computer science professors at Stanford University, Andrew Ng and Daphne Koller (cursera.org).

The course I selected, Get Interactive: Practical Teaching with Technology, was offered by the University of London, Bloomsbury Learning Exchange by Dr. Eileen Kennedy and Dr. Diana Launllard.

I chose this course because I need to get with the program of technology. Our students deserve the best delivery of knowledge available to become more creative producers, not passive consumers.

Where do I begin to share the little and big things I have experienced in this FREE course? (I should first give great thanks to my professors in this Ed Tech program for pushing my tech boundaries). Basically, this course offered pretty much what we have been learning all along in this program.

This course has offered a substantial review and meaningful guidelines in implementing technology in the classroom. It has shown me step by step how to utilize Padlet, how to embed a timeline in Twitter, how to create and embed videos and podcasts. It also described how to take snapshots (see below), how to create infographics, Wiki platforms, Adobe Spark, and how to embed a video in a Moodle course. I've also learned how to create screencast videos, how to use online presentation tools such as, Prezi and Sway. And last but not least, I have learned how to create digital badges, how to use quiz tools such as, Kahoot, Metimeter, and Socratile. and much much more.

Promoting ICT Literacy

This web-based learning experience promotes ICT because it impacts students learning when educators are digitally literate and understand how to integrate it into the curriculum. "We must use a diverse set of ICT tools to communicate, create, interpret, compute, store, disseminate, and manage materials" (https://www.commonsense.org/education/digital-citizenship/information-literacy).

Literacy has evolved with the times. As educators, we should be able to adapt and keep up with the times to provide the most current literacy via print or digital to our learners. "Literacy is not only about reading, writing, listening, viewing, and presenting. It is also about developing literacy with information and communication technology" (https://www.edu.gov.mb.ca/k12/tech/lict/what/index.html).

Summary of the MOOC Course

The course consisted of 3 weeks of work. During the first week, I was exposed to various media to engage and excite my students by creating images, videos, screencasts, and embedding Twitter feed. However, due to my time limitation, I explored only half of the assignments thoroughly.

During the second week, class members were expected to interact with each other through blogs and grading each other assignments. I did not take part in this interaction due to my time restrictions once again. I did enjoy; however, taking control of my own learning. I felt empowered to learn as much or little as I wanted. Some of the assignments became cumbersome, such as embedding a video in a Moodle course. It contained a set of complex tasks which left me drained. The final week consisted of formative assessments.

The Learning Designer focused on the experience of the learner. It included specific teaching and learning activities by learning type. Videos were included, along with the full-text dialogue broke down my minute intervals. One can quickly save notes on the sidebar by highlighting and then copying and pasting relevant information. The course provided step-by-step instructions and plenty of resources to choose from. Overall, it was an easy-to-navigate site. Consistency and self-motivation are essential to become a successful learner while taking these types of courses. The site assists students by providing tips on becoming a better learner and setting weekly goals while navigating through the course.

Overall, it was a great experience. I will try to go back and complete most of the activities highlighted throughout the course during the summer break. It is imperative that I continue gaining knowledge in the tech world to become better armed as an educator in these modern times and we must "Keep Learning."
