Susanna is an 18-year old being voluntarily committed to McLean Hospital. Susanna was diagnosed with Border Line Personality Disorder by her parent’s family friend who is a psychiatrist. while in the hospital Susanna makes friends with other women in the hospital. One of the women is Lisa, the ring leader of the group, and is quite familiar with the hospital layout. Susanna has a rollercoaster relationship with Lisa and other females she has befriended in the hospital.   • Moral Model: Those with any type of disability was frowned upon. Society often blamed their disability on sin (Mackelprang, 2009). 

    • Medical Model: During the 18 & 19's hospitalization for those with mental illnesses was considered as treatment (Mackelprang, 2009).  

    • Social/Minority Model: During the era of Susanna's hospitalization there were no laws in place or movement which attempted to normalize disabilities. Institutionalizing people with disabilities was normal, as a way to get and keep them off of the streets(Mackelprang, 2009).

We aim as social workers to service all our clients and provide them with the best service as possible. To promote social justice and advocate for our clients if we feel like their rights have been violated. Uphold and encourage the dignity and worth of the person who is our client. We should never cause further harm of our client if we see that we could harm the client in any way we must remove ourselves and appoint someone else to work with the client. Incorporate integrity into our everyday practice with individuals regardless of the situation and always be competent in the service area we are working in order to help the client as best as possible.
