This is a great formative assessment. The teacher gives the students a question to answer dealing with the subject the students are learning. Each individual student writes their answer down and then pairs up with another student to discuss their answers. The teacher goes around and listens to each pair group to gauge for understanding. This is a great formative assessment to help students get their wiggles out. The teacher poses a question and then designates each of the four corners of the classroom as a different possible answer. The students must get up a go to the corner that they feel is the correct answer.

This is a great formative assessment to see students understanding while the lesson is being taught. The teach supplies each student with 3 cards. One card is red, one card is green, and one card is yellow. The students are then instructed that at anytime during the lesson they don’t understand what’s going on, that they should put the red card on their desk. When the teacher sees the red cards, she/he will stop to give help students understand further before proceeding with the lesson. if the teacher sees the yellow card he/she will know that the student needs more practice or has a question.
