They are one of the 40 different species of toucans in the world today. With their distinctive large beak and green feathers, it’s easy for them to camouflage themselves. They’re usually spotted in the Peruvian Rainforest, however, they are on the verge of extinction due to habitat endangerment. </em></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The Peruvian Amazon is a region of the Amazon rainforest that is located in Peru, northwest of South America, and east of the Andes.<br><br>It consists out of 5 departments:<br><br></div><ul><li>Loreto, the capital: Iquitos → the largest city in the world that cannot be reached via road. It’s also called the metropolis of the jungle because of its prosperity.</li><li>Amazonas: Chachapoyas → One of Peru’s oldest cities, also called the land of orchids, sugar cane, and coffee plantations.</li><li>San Martin: Moyobamba → Moyobamba is known for thousands of orchid species, many viewable at the San Francisco Botanical Garden, which also has fruit trees and butterflies.</li><li>Ucayali: Pucallpa → the second largest city in Peru -- it’s connected to the Uyacali River that runs all the way through the Amazon.</li><li>Madre de Dios: Puerto Maldonado → Madre de Dios is a region in southeastern Peru’s Amazon Basin, bordering Brazil and Bolivia.<br><br></li></ul>]]></description>

But since then, the forest hasn’t stopped burning —and 2020 could be even more devastating for the rainforest and the Indigenous Peoples who call it home. Last week, Greenpeace Brazil flew over the state of Mato Grosso to capture images of the Amazon. Even though the government had ordered a ban on forest fires in the state starting at the beginning of July, the photos show smoke, flames, and just how ineffective the ban has been."</div>]]></description>
