In Biology we recognise that science is a global endeavour where we are all working towards a common end – that being, solving a range of issues that affect people worldwide. Examples of this include collaborative work on the human genome project and development of assisted reproductive technologies, creating monoclonal antibodies etc. Having only taught VCE, there is an emphasis on cutting edge technology used in research to solve issues. The texts used in our classes are chosen for the contemporary presentation of Biology – these are in line with VCE which has a very contemporary syllabus. I think we can consistently make links with research innovations in countries around the world and highlight the need to collaborate with one another, not just in research, but in their own classroom environment.   • We are fortunate enough to a range of cultures in our student cohort and this is embraced in all classroom situations and extracurricular activities. When discussing topics we endeavour as this acknowledges cultural beliefs and differences.
