How much privacy should citizens have from their government? What about online privacy or privacy on social media? When do you think they should lose this privacy?

I think people should have a good amount of privacy from the government. People dont want strangers to know everything about them. Online privacy should be private and nobody should know anything about there log in information except for the creators of the app. People should lose this privacy from the government when they do something wrong or get banned. The government should be aloud to know certain things about people, but knowing everything is too far.

I think we should have some privacy where they are not like knocking on our door every two seconds to ask if we have seen a suspect anywhere. Like they should do all the facial recognition stuff but not to where it can be hacked and everybody's life is ruined. So what I am trying to say is that they can do this stuff but don't do it too much to where people know they can hack it.

To be honest I don't really care I don't have anything to hide. I mean the government already has almost all of your info about a lot of people. They already track you everywhere you go and most of the technology you have tracks you and knows everything you do and always listens. I mean I understand if some people want privacy I understand but the government already has a lot about you. You could be adopted and you don't know but the government already knows that you are. That's why I don't care if they know things about me or not.

It can be worse online, and people can already track us through our phones. People can get scammed, hacked, and bullied through people seeing certain things. And no one wants their privacy spilled out to the world. But I do think in bad situations they should use the information they have, to find out what they need to know to fix the problem.

Citizens should have some privacy but not too much. If there is too much the government can't do anything to stop or find criminals. If there is not enough the government could take complete control. You should get as much privacy online as you want to. You choose how much privacy you get online. You can post your house address and your personal information or you could just do nothing. I think that they should lose all of their privacy once they commit a felony. If they commit a felony, the government should have all the resources to find you and prevent you from doing any other crime.

I think that maybe in like public say you did something and the police and all that stuff know you did it then maybe get the government involved. But I think the government doesn’t need to be all in your business and stuff like that it’s just creepy. On social media when you put your age and your name in the have you already in the system. That means if someone reports you that’s how you get banned .

Its weird that the government can look at what you're doing at any time and watch what you are doing and steal your info and your data. Me personally I wouldn't like someone to watch me and steal mt data and info. I just think its weird and creepy to watch ppl. And I think we all deserve privacy.

I know that It may help a lot more if the government had all of our information but I'm sure people would definitely want some privacy. I think that online privacy is fine. this is because if you post something, then you realize that you are putting your information and your views, on social media which is easily accessible to strangers. You know that people you don't know can see your stuff. You acknowledge this. That's why I think online privacy is fine. I think they should lose this privacy when there is reason to believe that they are a suspect in a crime or serious matter like that.

The government should be able to know where they live and how to find them but not have their DNA. On social media, don't post what you wouldn't want everyone to see. Everything that you post online can eventually come back. The only reason that the citizens should maybe lose this privacy is if they are hiding from the government. The government shouldn't know everything about everyone though.

I think like what you like and where you go to school that stuff is fine its the personal stuff that should be guarded. Sometimes people don't want the government to know everything about their life. This being said people will try and use this. They will start doing bad things on the internet. If the government isn't watching how will they ever figure it out. If they do start doing things like hurting people verbally or other things they should lose their privacy. I think privacy is good, but with borders.

I think citizens should want a lot of privacy. The government should not know what is going on every second of their life. Every time they walk out or go do something. I think they should choose how much privacy they should get. I think with online privacy you can choose as well. What if you post something online then everybody your friends with or strangers can see it. So it just depends on if you want to share things or not. I think there is a limit because if you are not doing something right then I don't think you deserve all the privacy some people have. The people who are doing things right can have privacy. The people who are doing things wrong need to be watched depending on the severity of what they are doing. That's what I think about privacy.

Online privacy is already bad because some apps are tracking us through our device. I have heard stories of people getting scammed, hacked, and even bullied because of no privacy online. Another thing that is bad about privacy online is some people will tell another guy/girls life, to me that is invading someone else's privacy then making it public. But I think in serious situations the government should have something like a fingerprint, description, and maybe even face ID so they can catch a criminal. So I think we should get our privacy but the government can use a physical feature to find a criminal.

I think it is an invasion of privacy, but I think that's A good idea for the police standpoint. Because if they were trying to catch a criminal and they can catch them in 7 minutes that is amazing and makes the world a lot safer. But on social media I think that we should be able to post something without having to worry about the government tracking us by it. But honestly I have really mixed feelings about it because government having a bunch of peoples personal information will help them find people when they need to be found, But on the other hand that's probably not everything they are going to do with this information.

Citizens should be able to have a decent amount of privacy. Since lots of online privacy isn't really up to the government and more to other citizens, I feel like the government should only take small pieces of information, if any. Citizens should feel safe and protected by their government not threatened due to extreme measures. Even though citizens deserve privacy, there should be a point where some don't. For instance, if someone goes to jail for something serious then the things they do should be watched. Other than that, people deserve to have at least some security.

People should have a good amount of privacy from the government. Their private life is their own, and if the government was watching them all the time I don't think anyone would be relaxed.
I think that there should be boundaries about what the government can see or can't see on online devices. If it's something as simple as shopping then they don't need to have their data recorded, but if its something that would cause alarm (like they're buying weapons not regularly used or buying drugs), then they're allowed to get notified and put a stop to whatever is happening. The same rules apply to social media apps. If someone were to do things that they shouldn't regularly then I think that's when their privacy can be taken away.

It is just that there are a lot of bad people in the world that need to be watched and if they do anything bad we should be able to find them right away. But I feel being watched all the time is overkill. I also think being watched on social media is just way too much and they are only doing it because they are trying to get us to buy their product.

How much privacy do I think the citizens should have? Thats a good question. I'm very opinionated when it comes to topics like the goverment and organized religeon so i'm glad i'm being asked this.

In my opinion, the amount of information a government has should be limited. For every person, they should only know their place of work, home adress, appearance, age and current car. I believe that privacy should not be a privelege and instead should be something everyone has regaurdless. However, if someone has done jail time or is a felon I think that the government should be able to have more information. That just means that they will know where they are.

Anywho, privacy on social media is a given. It should never be take away or given any reason to need to be distrusted. I don't think that organized or pre-determined ads should be a thing.

Like, there shouldn't be cameras inside your house or tracking you constantly. On social media, I think a small amount of collecting data is alright if you're only trying to sell things, but a small amount. However that doesn't mean they can't know some things but I think citizens should be able to make that choice for their selves. I think people should have the choice for their social media account to be private and I don't think the government should be able to log into it. I don't thing that they should know everything all the time, but they need a little bit to be able to solve crimes. Most crimes are actually solved by phone records, so if they didn't have those records, many cases would be unsolved. As for online privacy, I think people need to learn to not share. People will get sloppy and put their information on the internet for anyone to see. This could be the government, or a criminal. Hopefully if you do put some info online, no one will take it, but you can never be sure. I also think that criminals should lose some privacy, since they are criminals. Not all of them are bad and won't do anything again, but there are others that will.

Privacy is a human need, but so is safety. Citizens need privacy from their government. I know for a fact that most people hate the feeling of being watched all the time. But privacy also needs to be exchanged for safety in society. A line is drawn when you are watched all the time. My thing is the government should be allowed to monitor a person's purchases, as well as monitor some parts of their online identity. They should not be able to track where a person goes or what they do. And they can monitor what we are interested in for relevance on sites, as long as it is vague and not shared. People who monitor this should have to take an oath or something. Because who is going to watch them? If they are not monitored they could still share our information and do bad things with it as well. Privacy is huge and needs to be thought about carefully. And one person should not have more power over anothers' privacy than the person does themselves. However, a person loses more privacy when they are accused of a crime.

Privacy is collective because exposing data about ourselves also exposes others. The effects of privacy loss are not immediately apparent because they are cumulative. In that they are similar to ecological damage: No single piece of trash is responsible for climate change, but its accumulation has a high probability of ending in disaster. Once you get to that point, it is very difficult and sometimes impossible to go back. In the same way, it would seem that nothing happens for giving personal information to a company. But the data is added, added, analyzed and used, many times, to the detriment of the users. They are sometimes used to determine the purchasing power of each user and how interested they are in a product in order to charge them the highest price they are willing to pay. They can also be used to discriminate against someone based on race or health: if two job applicants are equally competent, but one suffers from a health problem, a company may prefer to hire the other. Both examples show how privacy violations tend to lead to behavior that denies our equality as citizens. Criminals can also use personal data to extort and steal. On other occasions the data is used for political purposes, as in the case of Cambridge Analytica. If a government could know everything about its subjects, it would have almost total power over them. If the dictatorships of the past had had the surveillance power that is possible today, it would have been much more difficult to break them.Consent is one of the great problems of digital ethics. Companies and institutions usually collect as much information as possible and store it for a long time in case it is useful in the future. This means that not even researchers can know the possible repercussions of that information: nobody knows what other data it may be linked to, what results it may lead to, in whose hands it may end up. Consenting to our data being collected when there are no plans to delete it is like signing a blank check that other people are going to pay for as well.

I think that singular citizens should have their own privacy. If you are just living your life you don't need to have the government watching your every move. I think we still need to have cameras for safety reasons, but not ones that track you or anything. On social media and on websites I don't think they need to have your information because that is a bit weird. What if the website is ran by an old man who wants your address so they can kidnap you, you never know. For me I just need my privacy, I would not be comfortable having a stranger watching my every move and knowing everything about my daily life.

I don't think that the government has the right to know every detail and invade our privacy completely. We should have some security definitely, like cameras and police officers, and personal healthcare data. But if normal people are just trying to live their lives, not knowing that the government is tracking their every move, that is a little too far. We should have enough security that we're safe but we shouldn't go overboard. Or people should agree and give consent to how much personal information they give.

Now there are good things about lots of protection and cameras, like helping deflate crime rate and other things. But there are more cons than pros in my opinion. Like personal saftey against artificial intel. This could also cause saftey problems if there was a traitor in the security part of the government who could send info on US citizens to other countries that could blackmail or do other bad things.

I believe that the amount of privacy depends on your criminal record. Of your record is non-existent then you would almost complete privacy. But if you have multiple offenses then you would have less such as cameras in the city would track your face and watch you. I also think the privacy would be revoked if you have more then three things on your record, but things like petty theft wouldn't count as much. I also think that there should be cameras but unless you don't have a serious criminal record they would track it unless they need it, such as you'r a suspect in a crime.

In a perfect world you would never need that many cameras or people stalking you and your life. If you think about it, it is more like a stalker that you can’t see or stop. If you complain that you have no privacy I feel like you shouldn't be able to complain if you post on social media because you know people can get data from you and other things.

There is really a lot of gray area in the amount of privacy people should get from the government when you think about it. It can seem like a good idea to know a lot, because after all, if you haven't done anything wrong, you have nothing to hide. But wrong is different to different people. If the government makes laws that may be morally wrong to you according to your religion or just anything, then that changes things. For example, if the government makes a law that you can't practice a certain religion, but you do, you would get in trouble for something might be against the law, but not necessarily wrong. So it also depends on what they use it for. If you got kidnapped, the surveillance would be useful for you getting found and the kidnapper being caught. So in a sense, it's good if used for the right reasons. So I think that if there is no reason for someone being a suspect, they should have full privacy, and only if they have tangible reason to look at the data. We should be able to have online privacy, because no one should just be looking at what we are doing on our phones because that is our business. But at the same time i think there should be cameras on the street and in stores to keep us safe, and to find criminals. I also think that if you have a private account in social media then you should have privacy even from the app workers, because by making the account private your inputting that you want only certain people to see it! But if your account is public it shows you don’t care who sees it. I feel like when ever people loose there privacy it’s because they have lost trust/ did something untrustworthy with the app or people in there life. Sometimes people loose privacy when their parents take their doors off (never happened to me) and when they take your phone.

After hearing about the ancestery.com article, I feel like our DNA could be used for good things. I agree on the government having at least a good amount of our privacy. I doesn't really make much sense if they have our social media usernames and passwords. Since it is the law and they are trying to stop bad things from happening, I think they should have a fair amount for our safety.

On the internet, people might give away too much information bout themselves that might put them in a spot that they can't get out of. I think if you want privacy on social media then you need to choose who you share your posts with. If you share something private then decide you don't want people to know that's on you. But at the same time people shouldn't be able to figure out whatever they want about you online. I think people lose their right to privacy when they do something they shouldn't. If you commit any kind of crime I think you forfeit the right to privacy and the government should be able to have whatever information they need.

In today’s world, I think that to make the world a little better you would just need to give the government just things like your medical records and general location like where you live. Online privacy isn’t really a problem that the government causes. As far as I know, the government doesn’t really want to know what you do on Instagram or Snapchat. Though that may become a problem with social media becoming more of a part of our lives. People should only really lose their privacy if they have done something wrong. That way people/the government can track and make sure that they aren’t doing anything wrong to develop a further problem. However, in a utopia, people should have total privacy because no one would need to know what they are doing in a perfect world.

Online privacy on the other hand, should be something people care about more. On social media, there are lots of creepy people that may want to sell your information or other people that may want to find out where you live. I feel like on the internet people can know like your name and maybe places you visit or fun things you do.
