I think some students would have benefitted from individual break-time rehearsals to work on their vocals, expression and projection; microphone etiquette needs to be emphasized and practiced in advance.

Auditions / Rubrics / Selection

The audition rubric can and should be shared with the parents and contestants prior to the auditions to give them a chance to familiarize themselves with the criteria and requirements. The rubric should be simple enoigh to follow and needs to be standardized ensuring fainress and objectivity. Once scored - all scores should be averaged out and the contestants should be chosen solely based on their scores to remain objectivity and fairness. Videos, scores or any further details should not be shared with parents to justify the selection - as specialists in our subjects, we should be trusted and supported in making informed and educated decisions on accepting contestants that adhere to our standards.

Hosts were absolutely amazing at doing their job. We should continue having hosts of the event - perhaps we can choose hosts from the students that were not selected in the auditions?

Communication

Communication between parents and teachers should remain formal and informative only. All relevant and official information and guidelines should be shared with parents via an email and in advance. Communication should be limited and restricted to responding within working hours and only regrding the contents of the showcase.

Costumes and parental support

Parents who came to help their children get ready for the show were very polite, respectful and supportive. It was lovely to allow parents to come in and take an active part in students preparing for the show. All of us working together to ensure the children are ready to enter the stage builds a positive atmosphere and a sense of community.
