         <description><![CDATA[<div>&nbsp;</div><div>Unity and Contrast</div><div><br><br></div><div>Matthew: Pitch and Duration</div><div><br></div><ul><li>Contrast: Soprano plays the main melody contrasting with French Horn and a Clarinet sounding instrument. Clarinet plays broken chords in the lower register providing harmonic support contrasting with the high register flute melody. The Bass part played by Baritone saxophone is contrasted both rhythically and melodically with the melody played by the soprano sax.</li><li>Unity: The Alto Saxophone (harmonic role)&nbsp; and Soprano Saxopohone (melody) are in Rhythmic unison. The Harmonic role from the saxophones in the lower register are in Rhythmic unison. Sections of the melody are repeated by the different instruments exploring Unity in the piece.</li></ul><div><br><br><br><br></div><div>Liam: Structure and Texture</div><ul><li>The piece opens with all 4 saxophones introducing the main ostinato</li><li>The texture stays fairly consistent with all instruments playing most of the song, however there are some individual features, especially for the baritone sax, adding&nbsp;</li><li>The baritone helps create a contrast with its annacrusis prior to the melody, in which the saxophones achieve a type of structural unity</li><li>Each saxophone contributes its own weaving melody achieving a contrast with each other through harmonic and melodic roles</li></ul><div><br><br></div><div>Ben: Tone Colour and Dynamics and Expressive Techniques</div><div><br></div><div>Instrument | Tone Colour<br>Soprano Sax | Resonant, mellow, Ringing, bright<br>Alto Sax | Bright, resonant<br>Tenor Sax | Warm, mellow<br>Bari Sax | Warm, mellow</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><br><br><br><br></div>]]></description>

Arranged for Saxophone Quartet.<br></em><br></div><div><strong>Contrast and Unity </strong></div><div>                           </div><div>Soprano Sax  | PART I - Melodic role  | <br>                 <br>Alto Sax  | PART 1 - Accompaniment - playing harmonised melody  | <br>                  <br>Tenor saxophone | PART 1 - Counter bass melody - contrasting from main melody . | <br><br>Bari Saxophone | PART 1 - Low pitched notes, played in a legato style | PART 2 - Plays its own ostinato, and also takes over the melody from the alto/ sop/ and tenor </div><div><br></div><div>Instruments</div><ul><li>Sop Sax - The sop sax has the melodic role, which is also accompanied by a harmonic role of another alto part which creates unity, as they are playing the same melody but harmonised. </li><li>Bari sax - The bari sax plays a counter melody in relation to the main melodic part of the sop and alto, at a soft, legato style pace and also takes on the melodic role accompanied with the tenor sax through some of part II, which helps to create a contrast in sections, going from section I to section II </li><li>Tenor saxophone - Counter bass melody - contrasting from main melody from the alto and sop sax - creating a subtle contrast throughout the excerpt. </li><li>There is the element of rubato throughout the piece in relation to all instruments </li></ul>]]></description>
