1) The gap: the separation between our expectations and reality. The president is normally expected to play the very symbolic role to represent the head of the state, and also a large political role as the head of government.
2) Since the presidency of Franklin Roosevelt, people now have a large expectation of the president too just really fix everything. If you have a problem, the president WILL fix it, but no, that's not real life and that is a FAKE - expectation coming from americans. This is when the gap was born and has been a hugely abnormal expectation of the man that leads the country.
3) As the president, they are forced to go through "An unavoidable conflict." You're the president which means you're the head of state also known as the leader of the nation. Then you are also known as the head of government, so you are forced to be a leader that doesn't really help everybody in the nation from the difficulty with the government and taxes or welfare policy or etc. Long story short though is as the president of the united states of america you will feel the general force to help but do your best as our leader.

Presidential power extends only so far due to congresses decision to pass the 22nd amendment limiting terms. Presidential power also relates to their ability to keep and hold promises to the public sometimes out of reach and overruled by congress. This is due to the fact many believe power should be balanced between congress and the president to keep equilibrium within the offices and to not let one power hold more strength and dominate others.
3. Lastly, I learned sometimes the presidents role nearly always must put him at a political stance having to decide public policy resulting in loss, win , and anger for the people.
