Stereotypes influence how we interact with people in many ways, especially in regards to the way we communicate with people of different cultures. There can be, for example, an instant feeling of pity (like in Adichie's case), curiosity, or maybe intimidation based on the culture that a person has. This can cause assumptions on what that person is like (their likes, dislikes, hobbies, etc).

if you think about it movies are like stories just acted out. so instead I'm going to tell you about a wonder-full movie... the movie is called wonder, basically it is about a boy named Augie. Augie was born with a genetic disorder that made his face look weird. so he got made fun of a lot when he went to school. but there were still people who like him as a person. point is that some people may not like you because your different, and you don't look like what they are used to. but there will be others who may like you for your personality and that is all that matters.

At one point, I created or believed in stereotypes and that caused me to avoid certain groups of people. When the same thing would happen to me where people would avoid me or create negative stereotypes about me is when I started to realize that you don't know all that you think you do about a person until you meet them and get to know them.
