  • Bacteria is necessary for the carbon, nitrogen, sulfur, and phosphorus recycle which are essential for the ecosystem. These cycles are important to reinstate elements within the environment 
  • With the overload of toxic waste in the environment, genetically modified bacteria can be used as sensors to seek out certain pollutants for scientists. For instance, some bacteria can be utilized to clean oil spills in large bodies of water 
  • Bacteria aids in the breaking down of lethal pesticides, explosives, and other toxic elements within the soil.

  • Ingesting beneficial bacteria can lower the amount of harmful bacteria in the body. Lactobacilli and Bifidobacteria, found in the intestinal tract, create an acidic environment to halt the production of harmful bacteria. 
  • Probiotics are the most common beneficial bacterium found in the human body. They aid in the immune system by increasing the count of White T cells. Probiotics also aid in the regulation of hormone levels and cholesterol levels. Probiotics can be found in dairy products and fermented foods such as kimchi and kombucha.
