Also got succeed at opening diplomatic relations with Communist China and beginning a detente with Soviet Union. Detente - a relaxing of tension. <br>Nixon was the first American president to restored diplomatic relations with Communist China by reopening relations with China. <br>He was also the first president to signed an agreement with Soviet leaders, limiting the development of defensive missile system.</div>]]></description>

The scandal stemmed from the June 17, 1972, break-in of the Democratic National Committee, headquarters at the Watergate office<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Watergate_Office_Building"> </a>Building  in Washington, D.C., by five men and the Nixon administration's subsequent attempts to cover up its involvement in the crime. Soon after the perpetrators were arrested, the press and the Justice Department discovered a connection between cash found on them at the time and a slush fund used by the Nixon re-election campaign committee.</div><div><br><br></div>]]></description>

Fearing removal from the office by the US senators, Nixon became the first president to resign. Some of the impact of Watergate are that showed our government is based on laws, not individuals and that: the system of checks and balance works.And congress passed new laws to curb Presidential power to restoring the balance between the executive and legislative branches. Lowered public confidence in government officials. The supreme court preserved its independence, ordering Nixon to hand over the tapes.</div>]]></description>
