Madrid has changed

In last few decades the huge city of Madrid located in the heart of the Iberian Peninsula has been extended even more, particularly in the affluent northern areas with high rise buildings and in the deprived southern areas. Whereas in the east, where previously there were run down villages, new stunning and trendy cities have spring up. If families from countryside areas had not moved to industrial and more developed cities like Madrid or Barcelona it would not have occurred.

However the ancient and historic centre of Madrid has not been changed too much due to the high value of the land. In this case plenty of companies have relocated from this city centre to new up-and-coming outskirts that have been constructed and designed to house new huge offices where the price of the land is quite bit lower. As a result they have made huge profits from selling their former offices in the city centre.

Brenles (Small unknown village in Switzerland)

This countryside tiny (word order: tiny countryside) village is not the most incredible place where you could witness changements (word: changes - changements is French, non?!). At the same time I do not have to forget that I am living there since thirteen years (I've been living there since I was thirteen) and that some kind of things have changed even so.

In the first place I am going to talk about my house. Indeed it is situated on the outskirts of the village surrounded by brightly-coloured fields and lots of trees. Built a hundred years ago with molasse stones this house used to be a popular cafe-restaurant called "La Gaîté" and was, in a way, the place to be. With spacious and luminous rooms it was a perfect place to organise huge gatherings. After that the building had various uses before being only used as a home.

More than having cosy and pleasant rooms the house looks out onto a splendide (spelling!) landscape which allows (+object, e.g. you/me/us/people) to get away from the hustle and bustle from (of) Lausanne, the nearest city.

Nevertheless the Commune decided two years ago to build new modern (modern = new!) houses. We would expect it to have consequences on (for) our confortable (comfortable) and silent (peaceful) area but at (in) the end it had not (didn't).

Although the main straight road is actually more used than before those changements (developments) helped the village to become more attractive. Every years (year) people from other villages and towns join us to through (for) a big party called "Les Girons" and during our national day we used to have fireworks.

Unfortunately inhabitants' behavior is virtually the same. Compared (+to) when I was living in Lausanne I encountered difficulties to maintain a good relationship with them. The reason for this is that they tend to judge people without even trying to (+ get to) know them.

Finally a (one) thing is utterly different. Indeed we had little stores (+ such) as a bakery and a post office in the center (American spelling - this is okay if all your other spellings are American English, just be consistent) of the village. Even if they were not trendy ones it was at least possible to purchase essential goods. It has gone downhill now because all stores are closed.

To conclude this presentation of what had (has) changed in my village I will say that those changements (changes) have not always had positive results or have even been useful. Meanwhile it is a pleasure to stay there and I don't regret the decision of moving from Lausanne.

Basel (Switzerland)

Has Basel changed since I was born? A lot! I guess there are [have been] a lot of tiny changes no one will recognise, but there are two big changes that came into my mind.

The most remarkable change in my opinion is the public transport. In Basel [there] are trains, busses and trams! You can go where ever you want by just taking the right tram, the trams drive by circles of 7 minutes [come every seven minutes] so you never have to wait for long. Wikipedia tells me that the trams in Basel exist [have existed] since 1892, but honestly i have my doubts about this. But what i know is, that when i was a child you had to wait for ages when you missed "your" tram and there also only where [were] a few different ones and now you can go [get] to every edge of basel by tram.

What also changed is the possibility for bicycle rider [cyclists]. Right now, almost everywhere there are seperate routes for them, the car driver (mostly) take really care of givining [make every effort to give] them their space. But this might could be the reason why there are more accidents with bicycle rider [cyclists] who don't care about the cars around them "he will wait to not crash [into] me, not matter if he would be allowed to do it or not", well sometimes they don't wait.

To recap it [has become] got a lot easier to get around in Basel then it was 20 years ago, but otherwise it would have been impossible to attract so many tourist as it does now.
