I will use View and Archived Class to look back at past classes, reuse assignments, and to see my own improvement year to year. It was interesting to learn that I would require an administrator's permission to email guardian's. Before learning more about the Emailing Guardians option, I had assumed that I could add guardians' email addresses and connect with them myself without additional steps. Now I know how to proceed. It was so interesting to learn about Using Forms Quizzes as assignments. Data from a Forms quiz would be so much easier to use and assess quickly. It would be a great quick check for understanding. What a great idea! I need to practice a little more with students to see how to collect data.

This way I could reuse assignments from previous years without having to remake them each year.
I would also use the post announcements feature. I think this is a great way to communicate events or assignments that are coming up to parents or guardians. It is also nice because the students can see the same message as their parents and know that we are all on the same page.
The last feature I would use is the give feedback on assignments. I can let the students' know how they are doing and give them any help before they get too far into the assignment. This way too they can make any corrections before they get too deep into the assignment. This is also a good way to boost confidence and self-esteem because the students will know how good of a job they are doing with specific comments.

Copying a class will be very helpful for each time I teach a class. Posting announcements are an excellent way to remind students of upcoming assignments/tests.

Copy a class is a great tool especially if you have multiple classes where you are going to be teaching the same lesson. It's easy to do and very efficient. Of course, after you copy it you can select edit and make any needed changes.
View an archived class will be useful because I now know how to find archived classes and I can either re-use them or get rid of them completely. Now knowing how to get rid of them meets my need to know I'm not keeping a lot of virtual clutter.
Post an Announcement could be useful because often in developing their writing skills there are aspects that all students need to work on so posting an announcement could be a way to get the point across. For example, at this point many students need reminders about punctuation so putting an announcement out to everybody might be an effective way to get the message across.

I love that you can reuse work that you already created by copying a class multiple sections of the same class. I also like that you can go back and view an archived class, you maybe able to use something from an archived class another year.
2. Communication Features
I like the idea of being able to email and invite parents to see student work, but is it really possible through Google classroom? I would like to do that. The more getting parents involved in their students learning, the better. Parents should have access to see what assignments are due.
3. Grading Features
As an English teacher, I really love the feedback on assignments feature, especially the stock comments. I would use that for correcting papers and giving immediate feedback.

This gives the parents an easy way to stay informed while saving me time and energy! I am going to suggest that they have a feature for sending translated summaries for our ENL families. :) I looked at checking archived classes as I have been using Google classroom for a few years now and had several classes each year and for the summer school programs so being able to archive a class and then go back to look at prior assignments is fantastic. Lastly I have already been using google forms for assessments but checking the quick tips gave me new ideas.

Students change classrooms within the building, move out of district, need to work on different goals, etc. and need to be routed to the correct lessons.
The feature regarding email guardians is a good one in order to keep parents and guardians informed of not only assignments, tests, quizzes, etc. that are coming up, but also to share information regarding special events, field trips. etc.
For the same reasons, the feature which allows the teacher to email students is great because the emails are contained in one place and have already been "grouped" according to which students are in which class. It makes it so much easier to have all of this information in one place as opposed to having to check separate email accounts to correspond with students.

I began this task by looking at managing classroom settings. I have some exposure to using classroom, but it has been self taught and I have many gaps in my learning. This will save me so much time as I no longer have to just delete the whole assignment when I want to change the title etc.
I love the classroom where guardians can be invited. I have a number of students who's guardians want regular updates on assignments and progress. This looks like and excellent time saving way to keep them in the loop.
finally I am excited to make use of grading and feedback in classroom. The idea of giving feedback as an assignment is ongoing is such a beneficial tool. i also feel they will benefit from being able to monitor here is a nice supplement to gradebook.

I am able to communicate effectively with all my students in a timely order to keep them motivated and encourage them to live up to expectations. For example they know when projects are due and can prepare for upcoming assessments. The email feature makes each student feel important, because each response is addressed to that particular student. Finally, the Form Quizzes are important in keeping track of students who need to make up quizzes, both students and teacher can grade and have immediate feedback on results of quizzes taken.

1. Adding Students-
This feature is necessary to add more students to the assignments. I have students in different classrooms and learning levels where this will be helpful.
2. Post Announcements-
This feature is great for keeping the students aware of differences in their schedules, special events, and happenings in the school.
3. Student Post and Sharing Permissions-
This allows me to control when students can post a comment because not every post requires a student comment.

1. Adding students- this feature is important to add students to google classroom. The features that I enjoy the most about this function is that you can easily add students manually or have the students enter the class code.
2. Inviting Parents- in addition to adding students to the classroom, you can also invite parents. This is a great feature because parents can see students grades, as well as help them with any corrections that may need to be completed.
3. Importing grades- I really liked this feature because it provides immediate feedback to students and allows the teacher an student to have a working document. This is also a great feature because grades can be exported on to an excel file to make it easier to import grades into PowerSchool.

I read into copying a class, archiving a class, and inviting guardians. As a school counselor I often create lessons that could be reused or tweaked a little to fit different age levels or classes. I wanted to look into copying a class so I could learn how to reuse those lessons easily. I wanted to know how to archive a class so I could have those lessons saved for me for later, especially the following year instead of keeping everything on paper, which can easily be lost or destroyed. Finally, I love to keep families in the loop and I think that is especially important when talking about mental health. Knowing how to invite parents into the lessons I am completing is extremely important because I can easily keep parents in the loop and encourage them to practice the skills the students are learning about at home.

I would use this feature to provide an overall feedback statement for the assignment for each of my students. I would not use this to write down every piece of feedback for my student. The more specific feedback would be written in the comments where it is lined up with where on the document that specific feedback is for.

The second feature I explored was "Grade and return an assignment." I would use this feature by providing my students an actual grade for their assignment and return it back to them so they can see what they got. I would also be easy to use it to help when inputting grades into the grade book at the end of the marking period.

The third feature I explored was, "Tips for using Forms quizzes." I would use this feature to provide my students technology to do a quiz on a given topic. I would create my quizzes in the Google Classroom and have them all in one easy place to find. This will eliminate the chance of losing the paper version and it would be easier to grade right in the spreadsheet of answers Google Sheets can do with an add-on for grading.

1. Organizing class work: Creating topics within a classroom helps keep your assignments organized as well as makes it easier for students to find assignments. One way I used topics for was reading levels. Students read a short story from a specific level and then answer questions in a Google Classroom.
2. Using Google Form quizzes: I have used google forms as quizzes or multiple choice tests. What I didn't realize was that there was like a template already made to make making a quiz easier. So this was exciting to me! I also love that forms creates a spread sheet for me with students' answers and scores and even has graphs of each question and the % of students who got it correct.
3. Inviting guardians: More and more I am trying to get parents involved in my classroom. One ways is keeping them informed of their child's work and grades. I think if I am able to share assignments and grades with them, that will help parent involvement in the school/classroom.

We can quickly give students feedback even before they are finished with an assignment, so they feel supported throughout and then can get targeted feedback at the end to move them closer to their goal.
2. Email guardians: I am always looking to increase parent communication and allow parents as much access as possible to their students' progress and performance. With Google Classroom, I can email parents about missing or upcoming work, or any other class activity that is important, which just provides another means of communication to allow parents access to our classroom.
3. Using Form quizzes: I used Google Forms all last year to assess my students and found it to be a great resource. I can quickly assess students and then see whole class results, and then break it down by individual student to see where misconceptions are happening. These also provide another means of providing feedback to students.

1. Grade and Return an Assignment - The goggle platform is used in my classroom when students are completing lab reports and projects. It allows for ease of returning completed work when teaching in several classrooms a day and always trying to remember to bring and then hand back graded papers. By using google classroom I am able to grade anywhere and return the assignment as soon as I am done grading. Google classroom also makes it easier to keep grades confidential so students who struggle/haven't done well on an assignment feel no pressure from their peers about what they got. Looking at their grade in google classroom is an individual activity.
2. Feedback on Assignments - The goggle platform is used when students complete lab reports and projects in my class. It is used because google makes it so easy to leave meaningful and organized feedback for students. Comments are neat, next to the issue and are immediately actionable.
3. Emailing students - This is used anytime my students have an assignment, like a lab report, assigned to them in google classroom. I think that using Google Forms for progress monitoring, exit tickets, and opportunities for reflection or teacher feedback could provide an efficient and streamlined way to collect information about my students' learning, and my teaching.
2. Emailing parents - I love the idea of keeping caregivers updated on their student's work in a class, specifically in terms of whether they are completing assignments, and if they are successful in their work. In a self-contained class, it is not unusual for parents to show interest in their students' progress across all subject areas, as well as social/emotional growth. Providing caregivers with academic updates via email sounds like a great way to keep caregivers in the loop without making 12 phone calls every afternoon!
3. Organizing classwork page - This was helpful to look at because the visual appearance/organization of the student view was one of the concerns that I had at the beginning of the course. Sometimes, too much visual stimuli can be overwhelming, so I was hoping to find some tips that would help me streamline the appearance of the classwork page, assignments, etc.

1. Posting announcements: I really like the idea of just posting what the homework is under an announcement, even if it isn't being done via classroom. I can also remind students to work on longer term projects that aren't being graded right away, or prepare for field trips and tests.
2. Emailing guardians: I like the idea of inviting parents and guardian to keep them posted on homework, projects and class activities. This will be especially helpful for my younger students, students who are absent a lot, or students who have a lot of missing work.
3. Forms quizzes: I think this might be an effective method to use for entrance and exit tickets. It is very easy to grade and give feedback. It also may be a good tool to use for a pre test before we start a topic.

It can be a real challenge to keep parents and guardians engaged with their student's education, and this is another tool that could make that task easier on the parent and on myself.
Add a Student- My administrators often add new students to my class load and for that reason I find that adding a student is an important ability to have in Google Classroom.

Give Feedback on Assignments:
I would use this to create feedback "checkpoints" when students are working on a project. I am trying to encourage my students to be more independent, however after completing their first project this year, I realized that they would have benefited from a little more guidance from me along the way. Using feedback in Google Classroom is helpful because the student can read the feedback even if they aren't in class.
Add Topics to Classwork Page:
I am trying to organize my Classroom pages by unit, so I will be utilizing the topics a lot. I am glad to learn that I can rearrange the topic order because recently I forgot to add an older topic to Classroom and it automatically populated at the top so they were out of order, but now I can put them in the correct order.
Using Form Quizzes:
I have read about other math teachers using Form Quizzes in their classes, and I have been hesitant to do so because I like to see my students' work and award partial credit when necessary. I need to do a little more research on how form quizzes can be used in a math classroom!

Setting Notifications -- I am one of many teachers who co-teach in our school's support room program, and I co-teach certain classes in my discipline as well. We have huge Google classrooms set up, with massive enrollments -- and last year I nearly tore out my hair because I was constantly being bombarded with email notifications every time a student made a comment or turned in a late assignment (and many of these were students who were not even mine), Now I can adjust notifications so I am not receiving them from those sections! What a difference!
Reusing a Post -- This is something I can use when I want to recycle assignments from previous years and tweak them a little in the directions. It is a huge timesaver to be able to go back and re-use something that was an effective tool in the past.
Grade and Return an Assignment -- I have never used the grade function with Google Classroom before, but it can be a good way of getting work back to students before I see them again, and to give them a chance to resubmit an assignment and respond to feedback that I give them. Since our block scheduling has us meet students only every other day, this can make it more immediate for them.

I feel this will help hold them accountable for their own learning and keeping track of their progress. I also reviewed and used how to archive old classes because I had classes from the last two years just taking up space and making it difficult when moving from class to class (ICOT teacher) and making sure I am in the current year. By archiving them my google classroom page is now current to this school year and much more organized. I also reviewed how to invite other teachers to my classroom so they can post unfinished classwork there or see what my students are working on in resource class.

If students are not using the comment sections or stream page for appropriate posts, you are able to mute the students. You can see deleted posts or comments, so you can catch any misuse of the stream/comment section or able to help students take a look of how they were or were not on the right track during their first post. Some students get nervous they are not "correct" and will delete an original comment thinking it can't be right.

* Give feedback on assignments: It is great to be able to give students feedback individually. This way other students do not need to see what their peers need to work on. As I continue to work on kindness and a safe environment in my classroom, I will begin to allow other students to do peer reviews on their peers work and post my feedback publicly. This way other students can see why an answer is correct while another may not be.

For each of the three topics you explored and tried in your Google Classroom, post how you would use it and why?

Give feedback

I read the article entitled 5 Research-Based Tips for Providing Students with Meaningful Feedback.

The first tip was to provide students with specific detail. However I somewhat disagree with this suggestion. Often times the only feedback I provide to students will be to highlight certain areas of their work. My reasoning for this is that I want students to be evaluating themselves and thinking through their processes rather than looking for me to provide the “right answer”. I am always willing to speak more with the students and try to guide them in improving their work and heading towards the desired target.

The next tip was to provide students with feedback as soon as possible. I think this is vastly important! Students will have forgotten all about an assignment a few days later. Their work needs to remain fresh and relevant. I do my best to provide students with feedback either that day or the next day. Google classroom and google docs supports the ability to provide students with either instantaneous or almost instantaneous feedback.

The third tip is feedback address the student’s advancement towards a goal. I am a believer in standards based grading. I want my students focused on their advancement towards a learning target rather than on a numerical grade. I am still learning about SBG and hope to implement more of it in the future. With google classroom and google docs I can provide feedback that links to specific learning targets that is individualized to each student. For example I can keep a progress track of student’s advancement towards a learning target and link their work as evidence for their current level of understanding. I can also link helpful websites or previous materials that may help a student who is struggling with a specific idea.

The last tip is to involve students in the process. I currently have individual meetings with students to involve them in the grading process and talk about their own individual progress and understandings. With google classroom I can have students collaborating and self-reflecting on their current and previous work. I can also have students commenting on their peers work and offering suggestions or asking questions.

Second feature would be Emailing guardians. What a great way to communicate with our student's family. this may be an easier form of finding out how your child is doing and keeping up with their schoolwork. Third feature is Giving feedback on assignments. There's a lot of creativity going on here. I like being able to create docs or change them. We did not do the beginning skills aspect of this lesson on the smart board. It was done through DEI at my U-table with paper/pencil activities. This presentation will be fun and interactive. The kindergarten students can come up to the board and circle the answer and add rhyming words on the next slide by writing the word on the board. I can also share this with the kindergarten teacher to use again at a center with a small or whole group for added review and repetition.

Archive classes and delete.- I think this is very useful to know because once you create a lot of classrooms it can be overwhelming if you have so many to manage, therefore being able to archive a class and still be able to go back and look it will allow you to remember what you did the prior year if you need a little help with planning.
Announcements: This can be really effective to inform students when they will have their next celebration(quiz ) and what to study.
Give feedback on assignments- This grants me the opportunity to keep learning ongoing outside of the classroom , especially with the new addition of chrome books to students. Also, students can directly get guidance from me and instant correction to continue that they learn the right way to use grammar.

Inviting parents: I like being able to keep parents in the loop and give them the opportunity to see what is going on in class. Transparency is important. It also opens up another line of communication with them.

Give Feedback on assignments:
The feedback capabilities is great for communicating with students and having it saved for each assignments is a great tool when speaking with parents and also if needed to help a student at a later date.

Adding Students: We always have students entering and leaving classes and the school. Keeping an updated roster is helpful since the classroom is not linked to powerschool.
