In my rendition of The Swineherd, I employed a modern vocabulary from the perspective of the Prince/Swineherd character.

The characters are donned in modern garb derived from western fashion. 

Character List: 
The Prince/Swineherd 
The Emperor
The Princess 
Ladys maids (main) 
Ladys maids (4-5) 
Servants-background/supplemental (2-3) 

Settings: 
Holiva- fictional country, in modern times (including modern technology) 
Prince's Kingdom 
King's Kingdom
Swineherd's quarters 
Courtyard of palace  
Outside of the Palace Gates 

Lighting ques: 
Lighting cues will change for the prince after he is rejected. They will be cast in a green tone, until he completes his vengeance and departs at the end of the play.

So I pluck my finest rose from the grave of my father, the only one that will bloom from this plant for five years and I assure you it smells sweeter than honey and shines redder than berries. For good measure, I prepare my nightingale for presentation as her voice was one as if every sweet melody was in its throat. I place my gifts in silver cases for only the finest presentation to then skedaddle on over to the Emperors palace.
