Yak Back Pack is a YouTube channel with a series of speech therapy videos aimed at articulation. Each video shows a mouth in the bottom corner to provide a visual to students on how to properly form sounds. No cost. This video has a young-child's feel to it. However, the videos do provide helpful practice and guidance for articulating sounds that any older children may continue to struggle with.

Social Stories with Carol Gray

Carol Gray is an international expert on creating social stories. Social stories were originally designed for students with autism. However, any child at any age who is having a difficult time with interacting appropriately to the world around them can benefit from social stories. set a timer, if needed
take movement breaks whenever possible
demonstrate active listening by taking notes during class instruction; even drawing pictures to represent key concepts is a great strategy
access resources for each class that are posted to Schoology
email teachers to check-in and clarify assignments/directions
schedule a video conference with teachers if the student is not understanding a key concept
parents/guardians should check-in on students throughout the school day to prompt/ensure that the student is staying focused and engaged

Nutrition/Food Resource during Covid 19 Closure

For students who are Chicago residents Food pick up is available at any CPS location between 9:00 am - 1:00 pm, Monday through Friday during the closure. Food pick-up is available for any child. You can find the nearest CPS location by visiting www.cps.edu/map.
The food boxes will contain three days of breakfast and lunch for every student in the household. Food pick-up will be held outdoors. Families need only ask for the number of boxes they need depending upon the number of children.

Families may visit any CPS school to receive this food except for Vaughn Occupational and Sheridan.

Q: Do you have any tips for motivating parents who are reluctant to engage in receiving additional support?

A: It is important to remember that there are many reasons that might be contributing to what looks like lack of engagement. There are stressors facing families now that are beyond what any of us likely learned about in our teacher education programs. In addition to praying for such families, I recommend reaching out individually to check on them. I also recommend reachong out to colleagues and/or your administrator to brainstorm ideas.
