Unlike Quantitative research where the number of respondents need to be high, Qualitative research allows for in-depth analysis of responses from participants (gathered through surveys, interviews and recordings) and sample size can be as small as 1. As it is open-ended, it would take time to process the data to code them and analyse the patterns.

I teach Primary School Upper/Lower Primary Mathematics and Science this year.

I think qualitative research entails exploring a research problem and to develop an  in-depth understanding of that problem. The  focus of data collection in this sort of research deals mainly on words/text from the participants rather than on numbers and figures. The manner in which the research is reported can be flexible enough to accommodate emerging structures as the research progresses. These will enable researchers to gain greater insights into some underlying reasons for the things that they observe during their qualitative research.

It would be interesting to find out more about the different features of the types of qualitative research that can be carried out at the Primary School level.
