What is happening in the story when this was being said was that Jonas was nervous about his new assignment as memory receiver

This quote is important because it shows Jonas a little more about the community's actual intentions. This passage had a significant impact on my thinking about if all the assignments had that rule on it and if the adults were lying to Jonas about important things.

It is said to Jonas on the paper that he had gotten after being selected to become the next Receiver of Memory. It tells that Jonas that he can lie and there are no named consequences. 

In the story, Jonas was getting ready for bed when he finally sat down and read over the paper.

It means that Jonas could lie. He had never lied on purpose, but the thought that anyone in his community could be lying, it gave him a start.

The author is trying to make us see that there could be some very shady stuff going on that people in the community could not know about. Or maybe they do know about it but are forbidden to tell, therefore giving the rule, you may lie.

This quote is important because it shows that there is more to the story than what meets the eye. People here could be lying all day everyday, 24/7, and nobody would know the difference. It makes you think how much of everything you hear in real life is a lie or not.

It had an impact on my thinking about the honesty the community has with each other, and it connects to the real word because their are so many people that can be lying and we just don't know it.

the chief elder told Jonas that he was allowed to lie. It is a big deal because every other person in his community cant lie he thought. but with being the receiver of memory you can lie. that means other people might be lying to him.

The Receiver Of Memory instruction folder. This Quote is said to Jonas, and the purpose of this quote is to tell Jonas that he is allowed to lie to people now.

When this quote is said, Jonas is in his sleepingroom and is looking over his folder of rules for his job, but he noticed earlier that some of the Twelves had been given thick folders. But his folder of rules was thin and had barely had anything in it.

This quote means that Jonas is allowed to lie now, and he wasn't allowed to lie and had to tell the truth before he got the folder of rules for his job. This quote reveals that not everyone in the community is allowed to lie unless told they can. The author is trying to make us see that Jonas, before, was not able to lie and NEEDED to tell the truth, but he is now allowed to lie because of his job. The tone/mood of this quote is very straightforward and telling us that Jonas may lie if he wants to and doesn't need to lie or not/need to tell the truth.   

This story/passage had a significant impact on my thinking about how things that are normal in the real world are strange/funny to do or be able to do. Like not being able to see color because of scientist changed their eyes to be colorblind, picking our own jobs, picking our spouses, and really anything that we get to choose for ourselves. Also, this quote is important because it is weird and not something normal that would be a rule. This quote is saying that Jonas can lie and that if he wants to, he has to tell the truth before getting the folder of rules.   

The author is trying to make us see that the system or the people of the “honor” that Jonas is now with in his assignment, is able to say deceitful messages or sentences to the people if it ever comes up in Jonas’s or anyone else’s ((even though there is no one else as we have seen)) assignment. It can also shape the tone of how the people will respond to the deceitful messages and how they cooperate even if it may be a lie. 

This quote made an impact on my thinking about how the people could be told lies and they would just follow even if it may be false as the people with “honor” are more respected and trustworthy. A real world connection I can make with this quote is with either government power and authority or just high management in general. You may not be aware of the false messages you may be told through the government as you know that you should respect them no matter what or else you could be dealt with punishment.  

Nobody really says this as dialogue but jonas reads it in his folder. It is meant  for him and him only. The purpose is to have him understand what he can do and can't do.

It may mean that he will not trust others in a way because if he can’t tell anyone about his job and he can lie then how does he know any other job can do the same.

The quote means he can lie whenever he needs to this also means he needs to keep everything a secret. All the things that his allowed to do now go against every rule they have in the community giving him some power but also losing his freedom to get out of the community. This is pushing his family and friends out because now that he can lie that would also mean that other people can lie.

The ton of everyone in his family is not like before meaning they were not expecting that to be what he would do. He is supported at everything the man has told him now he's starting to question more and more.

This quote is important because this means he has the  power to lie and be rude and go against the rules with no trouble. All his life he never lied because it's all his as ever known to him. Then he starts to question everything.

When this quote is said, Jonas is looking through the list of rules for his new job and he is starting to realize the oddness of his rules.

This quote represents the new way of life that Jonas will have, showing him he will have to break habits and rules.

This tone shows that not all is what it seems in this little perfect community and that these rules set Jonas apart from the community and make him isolated and trapped.

This is important because it builds up to the climax of the story. It also get us thinking about how in this community where rules are most important, how do we know that there aren’t others like Jonas who can also lie. How do we know who is honest and who to trust.

It means that he has the power to lie and no one else can and he wont get in trouble, it reveals that jonas is worthy enough to have that power. 

The tone and moods is chill in a tiny room with jonas and the giver, the author is trying to make us see that jonas is like confused and is not knowing what he can do.

It is important because lying can be a big impact on his life and it can change someone or something, real world applications would include like lying to someone to make the do something they wouldent do. This story got me thinking like about lying and what it can do

The Giver said the quote “You may lie”. The purpose of this quote is to lie to keep things safe. Like how you can’t share dreams at this job because of what might show up in them. The rules that he had to get said this as well.

The quote was said when he was at his new job and he was kind of tripped up by that because he usually wasn’t allowed to lie. He seemed a little shocked by this.

The quote means that if he lies he wont be punished like he usually would. It revels that the character might lie a lot more than he usually  would, that can lead to bad habits and other bad things. If he has to lie due to his job that's ok, but as long as his mood doesn’t change.

The tone of voice The Giver said this is a pretty serious tone of voice. His mood was probably worn out and maybe tired as well. The author is trying to make us see that this is an important part.

He might break up some of his relationships and this might have a significant impact on his family. Some connections that we can pull from our lives is all of the lies we do and have said every single day. This story has a big impact on my thinking about what we lie about all the time. We lie everyday and they aren’t even allowed to lie so that is why the story is changing my thinking on what times and when are right to lie.
