What the Health and Supersize me are both documentaries about health and the effects of diets on health. What the Health went into more detail about good versus bad diets. Supersize Me was all about the negative effects of a McDonalds diet on the body. Although, What the Health focused more on the corruption of thee food industry, while Supersize Me only touched on it. What the Health was definitely my favorite film out of the two films. I love learning about Health and the effects of a good diet on a person's diet. Through What the Health, I became educated about the true purpose of a good diet. I would rate What the Health at 5 stars out of 5 and Supersize Me at 3.5 stars out of 5 stars.

Example 1: To offer a base for the overall experiment Spurlock went through an examination from 3 different doctors and consulted a nutritional. All three doctors examined the numbers and determined that he had perfect health. The nutritionist told Spurlock to try and maintain a 1,500 calorie diet, obviously kind of hard with a McDonald's diet. Near the end of the 30 days Spurlock's doctors told him the best way to fix all the symptoms was to stop eating McDonald's. Through the scientific examinations by the doctors proves the purpose. The McDonald's diets caused heart problems and fatigue which effect many Americans.

The whole documentary is a court case about two girls age 14 and 19 that claimed McDonald's food caused them to become obese. Spurlock decided to go on a 30 day McDonald's only diet to possibly prove that this kind of diet would have a negative impact on health. Spurlock wanted to delve into the concepts behind fast food and its effects on many Americans' lives.

After watching this documentary I have a range of feelings. This would be the second time I've watched this particular documentary. I believe the first time I came across this film I was not yet a vegetarian, so I merely laughed at the very obvious harms of fast food. As a former McDonalds employee, I could point out regulars that came in more than 2-3 times a week. I can also tell you that customers got very upset when their "cheap" food wasn't perfect. I understand now how detrimental the wrong diet is to your own health. Another thing is that a persons health is unique, one diet is not going to be perfect for everyone, but fast food should never be apart of that diet. I wish that more people understood the dangers of an unhealthy diet.

In conclusion, this documentary has really opened up my eyes again. I have previously watched this documentary before, but didn't quite pay attention to much detail. However, I have been a vegetarian for about two and a half years now, but I'm really thinking about the future and if I should keep cheese in my diet. I understand that I have to be careful about what I put into my body, I would strongly recommend this documentary to anyone who is stuck deciding if they should try a plant-based diet.

What the Health successfully portrayed the effectiveness of its purpose.
Example 1: At first in the documentary Anderson explains that he had always been obsessed with his health/his "genetic" family's health. Until a study had come out that eating meat products was just as bad as tobacco and asbestos, which can cause lung cancer. Them he goes on to look at the various diets that The American Heart Association, The American Cancer Society, and Susan G. Komen Foundation. All of these supposedly helpful associations list all kinds of meat under their 'healthy recipes'.

The purpose of What the Health was to show that any industry can be influenced through money. Through the documentary Anderson researches different associations that should be helping to prevent heart failure, cancer, lung diseases, etc. However, Anderson points out that there are big errors that this associations are making. Anderson made this documentary to show the harm that these associations are doing to the people all because of sponsors from the food industry.

Example 2: Not only is meat bad for humans, but also cheese. Through some interview Anderson learns that no human needs any kind of milk besides breast milk during infancy. Many dairy producers are allowed to leave a certain amount of pus from the unfiltered milk, the milk right from the udder. Most countries around the world are lactose intolerant meaning. People of Asian decent are 95% lactose intolerant, meaning milk is never in their diet. Although it is proven that dairy products are bad for you the USDA still recommend a daily serving of some kind of dairy.

Example 3: Anderson does more research into the association of health and is shocked by who funds their programs and advertisements. Meat, dairy, and sugar companies put millions of dollars into these giant associations. The associations care about the money going into their pockets rather than the people hearth they are supposedly helping. On top of all of this various doctors voted against updated nutrition training. "Seven hours even over four years is a lot" (California doctor opposing side). One day is twenty-four hours, after seven hours that leaves 17 more hours. In a four year period there is 35,040 hours taking seven away from that is 35,033 hours. These doctors claim that seven hours after four years is too much, which really how badly money can brainwash someone.

Example 2: Another way the documentary achieved its purpose was through interviews. Vice president, Gene Grabowski, states "Part of the problem is the people". As all of Americans know that what is consumed is a choice. Many dietitians recommended McDonalds once a month or never when it came to overall diet. The use of interviews through the documentary was a successful feature of the film making process.

(In the credits of Supersize Me)

Example 3: Spurlock traveled a lot during the 30 day trial of the McDonalds diet. The vast amount of camera shots of different McDonalds during the documentary was overwhelming. This filming technique put something into perspective. How many McDonalds do we really need? Even just the shots off the ones just in Manhattan were ridiculous. Through this technique the purpose was achieved.
