         <description><![CDATA[<p>Lithium is a soft, silvery metal. When you put it in water, it floats and gently fizzes on the surface. After the reaction, the solution becomes alkaline with a pH of around 12 to 13. Like all Group 1 metals, it has one electron in its outer shell.</p><p><br/></p><p>Sodium is also soft and shiny, and you can cut it easily with a knife. When it reacts with water, it melts into a small ball and moves quickly across the surface while fizzing more than lithium. The solution formed is strongly alkaline, with a pH of about 13 to 14. It has one electron in its outer shell.</p><p><br/></p><p>Potassium is even softer and reacts more vigorously. When it is added to water, it reacts very fast and produces a lilac flame, which makes it easy to recognize. The solution formed is very alkaline, with a pH close to 14. It also has one electron in its outer shell.</p><p><br/></p><p>Rubidium is extremely reactive and very soft. When it comes into contact with water, the reaction is so violent that it can explode. The solution formed is strongly alkaline with a pH of about 14. Like the others, it has one electron in its outer shell.</p><p><br/></p><p>As you go down the group, the metals become more reactive.</p><p><br/></p><p>They are called alkali metals because they form alkaline solutions when they react with water.</p><p><br/></p><p>They all react in a similar way because they each have one electron in their outer shell.</p><p><br/></p><p>These metals are stored in oil to stop them from reacting with air or moisture.</p><p><br/></p><p>Some other properties are that they are soft, have low density, have relatively low melting points, and are very reactive.</p>]]></description>
