This kicked off the antibiotic era, where many compounds were found and used to treat bacterial infections. Other important antibiotics discovered were Prontosil and Penicillin.

The petri dish contained the bacteria Staphylococcus Aureus and interestingly enough the mold prevented the growth of that bacteria. This mold produced a juice that was termed ‘penicillin’ giving rise to antibiotics.
