1. Tambu - Although she looks up to Nyasha, she is her own person and won't become such a rebellious woman, like Nyasha is.

2. More of a natural relationship with Babamukuru and Tambu because she only tries to see the positive thoughts in him.

3. Tambu goes to places like Sunday school and is flooded with the idea of sin all the time. She is constantly thinking about it and is surrounded by the idea of it.

4. Quote on page 201 "To me the question of a wedding was a serious one, so serious that even my body reacted in a very alarming way. Whenever I thought about it, whenever images of my mother immaculate in virginal white satin or (horror of horrors) myself as the sweet, simpering maid fluttered through my mind, I suffered a horrible crawling all over my skin." Why do you think Tambu reacting in this way?

5. ^ Tambu didn't want any problems to surface and change for the worse.

6. What conflict does this quote on page 197 show? "'But before all these troubles began there was money for these things. Do not misunderstand me, Mukoma, I am not saying you are tight-fisted. I am only saying we have problems these days?

7. "I was so impressed with Babamukuru I could not stop admiring him. That evening as we prepared for bed I simply had to tell Nyasha for the umpteenth time how wonderful Babamukuru was..." (214). What does this quote show about how Tambu feels about her relationship with Babamukuru

1. Reflect onto this quote from page 204 "Nyasha was something unique and necessary for me." How do you think this shows who Tambu leans towards to, Nyasha or Babamukuru?

2. Do you believe Tambu actually concerns herself with sin or is this just the effect of the mission's repetition of this topic? Does her concern with sin contradict her personality or has she been heavily influenced from the mission?

3. "I was so impressed with Babamukuru I could not stop admiring him. That evening as we prepared for bed I simply had to tell Nyasha from the umpteenth time how wonderful Babamukuru was; how good and kind it was of him to be so concerned about Lucia and how, because of this, he deserved all our love and loyalty and respect."(215)
Do you believe or agree with this statement? Why or why not? How do you think this affect Tambu's relationship with Nyasha.

4. If Tambu does not want the change of her parents marriage, then why was she so welcoming to the change of her own life, her change from her family and life of poverty, to that of a white mission and life with Babamukuru?

5. Is she against the marriage because of jealousy? She and her siblings would be a product of a huge sin, but this would set her parents free from their own sin.

6. Page 216 "Babamukuru had wanted it to take place sooner. He was anxious that his brother be cleansed of sin as soon as possible, but there was too much to be done." Why now? What do you think pushed Babamukuru to finally be concerned for his brother in this way, what triggered this reaction from him?

7. What do you believe will be the next change in Tambu's life? Will this be of her own desire or that of the men of her life? Why do you think this will be the next change?

8. Could Nyasha and Babamukuru be considered Foil characters? Their views on their world and their personalities constantly contradict and conflict.
