         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>The first way genetic diversity is created in meiosis is through a process called crossing over, which is when homologous chromosomes pair up with a non identical parter chromosome, and they exchange parts of DNA.  The chromsomes are broken and rejoined in new combinations, which results in genetic diversity in the end result of meiosis.</strong></div>]]></description>

During this process, the two homologous chromosomes of a pair must go in different gametes.
