My goal for this project was to intentionally have a very busy composition while still appearing somewhat visually orderly (I want the viewer to have lots to view so I can effectively communicate my idea but also not feel too overwhelmed). This piece was highly influenced by the song Synesthesia by Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness. The song discusses the feelings he experiences from a girl, and how every time she speaks he sees colors and hears music. I really liked the idea of only using complimentary colors as well, and the challenge of mixing a wider variety of colors rather than using colors straight from the tube. This project, although the outcome isn't my favorite, was one of the most fun to complete. I love the outcome, especially considering how I decided to stretch outside of my usual comfort zone for this piece. The technique I used for the background was also a brand new experience (and not just for me!) I followed an example of 'drip acrylics/painting' and some of my own brainstorming and a palette knife to get various textures and interesting stains. After completing both sheets, I switched the color palettes to complete the foreground. I hope to become more comfortable with a wider variety of materials and subject matter, and aside from Drawing & Painting, I hope to continue my photography career. I hope to continue with art shows and expand my skills next year and beyond high school as well. I think I will try to paint more with oil and create larger pieces as well. I really enjoy textured pieces with oil paints, and i hope to practice with that and do it again. Yuppo paper was also interesting to work with, and I would benefit from more variety in paper/bases.
