The short story "The Dinner Party" relies on its setting to drive the plot.

The short story¨The Dinner Party¨ relies on its setting to drive the plot. For example, ¨In India, milk in a bowl means onnly one thing-bait for a snake¨(Gardner). The snake crawed over the hostests foot. The American knew that there was a snake near by. The snake was not in the corners or rafters of the building, so he knew it was under the table. If they were outside there would be more places the snake could be, and the American would likely think it is some were else. In return the man wouldn´t think of a snake under the table. If the American man did not think there was a snake his point would not have been proved, because the snake proved his point and got the woman to jump, so they would not know that woman still jump when there is a snake, mouse, or other small animal.

The short story "The Dinner Party" relies on its setting to drive the plot. For instance, "In India, milk in a bowl means only one thing-bait for a snake" (Gardner, 2). No matter where the story takes place, there shouldn't be a snake in a dining room during a dinner party. This is a sign of panic and ciaos.

The short story ¨The Dinner Party¨ relies on its setting to drive the plot. For example, ¨In India, milk in a bowl only means one thing-bait for a snake¨ (Gardner 2). Since this is India, and they have many snakes in India, the person assumed there was a snake. So, he was able to make an educated guess that there was a snake and was able to take action. By telling everyone to not move so they do not get bit and the snake is able to get out without anyone getting harmed.

The hostess felt something on her leg, and instantly knew that it was a snake.

The short story ¨The Dinner Party¨ relies on its setting to drive its plot. For example, ¨In India, milk in a bowl means only one thing-bait for a snake¨(Gardner 2). So since they live in india there are many snakes, and even more dangerous animals. So the hostess wouldn't be scared. If it would have been anyone else who have been from a different state they would have reacted differently, because they wouldn't have that many dangerous animals. That is probably why the man acted the way he did. he didn't want to make the other guests scared and freak out.

The short story, "The dinner party" relies on its setting to drive the plot. For example, "In India, milk in a bowl means only one thing--bait for a snake" (Gardner 2). Since the snake crawled on the women's foot, she knew not to freak out and sit still. She knew this because she has experiences in India, where she lived. If someone from another country experienced a snake crawling on their foot, their reaction would be different because they have not had experiences from India. In conclusion, the setting of any story can affect the plot.

For example, "In India, milk in a bowl means only one thing -- bait for a snake" (Gardner 2). India is known for having snakes, and milk is the bait to capture the snake. If this setting was not in India, it is not going to make sense in the story. That's why the women knew not to scream because of background knowledge of snakes in India.

The setting drives the plot because if it wasn't in India then they wouldn't know to put milk out for the snake. This is all they know to do because they don't have that much hunting knowledge. So the girl thought about how she could lore the snake out and she told the server boy how to.

The short story " the dinner party" release on its setting to drive the plot.

Additional," In India, milk in a bowl means only one thing-- bait for a snake" The american did not know ho w to bait the snake. The reason for the the place driving the story because in india cobras are known to be in India and most of the cobras enjoy consuming milk so the server decided to get a bowl of milk to get the cobra away. The american had slight knowledge and told everybody to stand still for 10 minutes.

The setting affects the whole story. In the text, the Dinner Party there would have been a Cobra. Also the American told them stand still and count to 300.They dont have hunters there in a different area everyone would have knew not to move and to be silent. The lady knew to be brave even though in that part of the world woman normally would have yelled because women are not supposed to be brave. This is why the story would have been different if it was in a different place or country.
