One Political change from the 1930s and 2000s was the right to vote.

In the 1930s, voting did not exist for locals and only British people were allowed to vote. Moreover voting was not compulsory.

This was because most
of the political leaders were British and not local. Also the British viewed the locals as less superior and that they are less civilised.

However, now in the present, every Singaporean citizen regardless of race or religion are allowed to vote.

A picture of British people voting below. As you can see everyone is of white race and only they had the rights to vote.

The British were aware that they could not govern Singapore in the same way they did before the Japanese invaded.

Thus, they introduced constitutional changes to increase local involvement in the government. This was partly in response to the political awakening taking place in Singapore.

So Singaporeans were allowed to vote from then on.The Citizenship Ordinance was passes in 1957 and more people become citizens with the right to vote. Now voting was compulsory.

The picture below shows Singaporeans voting. Now, regardless of race or religion, citizens are allowed to vote.

The government policy has remained the same from the 1930s and 2000s.The rules and laws have only partially changed and there has never been a monarch.A king has never ruled over Singapore.Singapore has remained a Republic nation and it would probably be in the next coming years.

The picture below tells us that Singapore has always been a republic and had a government. It has never been ruled by a king or queen. The British had a government and now there is a government too.

Singapore as a democracy and a republic was most probably favourable by people. Besides most countries were democratic and against communism.

Also the British were democratic. Moreover there was never a monarchy in Singapore so it was not necessary to get a king or a queen. It was a better idea to stay Republic.

The picture below proves that Singapore takes pride in being a democracy as it is mentioned in their pledge.
