This photo is of my caravan now as an adult. My husband and I do exactly the same thing. Every chance we get we head out in the caravan with our kids for an adventure somewhere in Australia. This book in particular, was, and still is, their absolute favourite. Now, it's mine, too. All three of us take turns cycling through the book when the urge arises, which explains the worn out front cover. Inspired by one of our extended family members, I took up the hobby which was encouraged by both my parents . My mother who has very traditional (indian) beliefs and values thought cooking was an essential skill for girls to learn. She would (in connection to cooking) tell me that I should never say " I don't know or I cant do it " to any thing and at least try my hand at it. Although she said this strictly in relation to cooking and housework. This defines me as I was always raised with the loving support and belief that it is ultimately us, our attitude and positive approach to life that contributes to our happiness and success. So to this day what defines me is this sense to be brave enough to have a go and seek opportunities you enjoy and pave your own path. I chose the photo of homemade cupcake to define myself. It is not about how good I can bake, it's because I have recently learnt how to bake at home. I am the kind of person who interest in learning and trying new things. I have strong faith and passion on my life and I am willing to accept any challenges and difficulties.

This sounds pretty cliché but it has always stuck with me and I have found that this has motivated me to challenge myself whenever I get an opportunity to do so and has made me more willing to take risks without the fear of failure. I became a professional tennis player at a young age because of this mentality and the importance values my parents have instilled in me such as working hard every single day in order to reach the top. Everytime when I pass by this temple, I can recall that period of time, which means a lot for me, since I did not have enough time to play when I started to go to primary school. My photo is of a beach, this represents my parents commitment and my determination. My life growing up was surrounded by water, my parents both agreed that their children would know how to swim. This lead to many years focusing and perfecting my swimming abilities, this taught me not only how to swim, but also how if you focus and apply yourself you can achieve anything.

My father used to be a Chinese teacher in a secondary school for a few years, so he valued the education of Classical Chinese literature very much. Ever since I remembered, there was a blackboard in my bedroom, and the poem on the blackboard was updated frequently. Those Chinese classical poetries were very suitable and understandable for a little child, were selected by my father for me. Every night, he would read the poem to me, and explained the history, culture and art within the poem. As a result, i take a keen interest on Chinese literature, one of my occupation dreams was being a Chinese teacher like my father. Although I didn’t choose to be a Chinese teacher when I choosing my major in the university, the habit of collecting classical poetries has been kept. I took a picture of my art log-book from high school, because this was one of the things that I couldn’t get rid of for 10+ years. My family moved to Texas when I was 13, and I really enjoyed the art program in U.S.

I feel like the 4 years in art class during my adolescents got me through the tough times, and I relied on it mentally and emotionally. Plus, my art teacher was amazing, and perhaps she was the one who really got me to consider educator as my career. Every time I 🤬 through the pages of this art log-book, I still remember the passion, and the eager that I had. I still wasn’t 100% fluent in English at that time, and I might have used art as a way to communicate and to express myself. Hoping that people can see more than just an international student from Korea; that it will project who I am, and what I am.

I have chosen this because first and foremost what defines me as a person is my family. I have always been inclined to care for and nurture children and this flows on to my current job within the early childhood intervention field as well as in my most important role a mother. The other reason I have chosen this image is that through my boys and their inline hockey I have met and continue to meet a vast array of wonderful humans, who I am blessed to be able to not only share my knowledge and passions with but who I also learn form on a weekly basis.
