My girlfriend's experience on the Georgia Tech Dance Team during the first semester of her freshman year was miserable. The coaches scheduled ridiculously long practices at inopportune times while not allowing for any other extracurriculars she needed for her major. To top it all off, despite referring to the dancers as Collegiate Athletes, they were lying. The truth was that from the start, the team belonged as a subgroup of Band, and the dancers only existed as glorified club members. In this final project, I will research how the University Athletic Association takes advantage of college dance and cheer teams.
